Hobby Shops in Alpharetta Georgia?
« on: December 29, 2015, 06:36:44 AM »
Any Hobby Shops in Alpharetta Georgia? I don't care if they sell drones, there's actually worst things than that.

Thanks in advance.

This shop is close by, but I won't drive into Atlanta.

His website says it all, and although the shop offers airplanes, no mention is made of CL.

Hope this link works?

Seek out Randy Smith of Aero-Products last in Dacula, Ga. (nearby) Yes, a spectacular engine builder/re-builder, but pretty well stocked CONTROL LINE hobby shop as well. He's listed here. http://www.aeroproduct.net/

Whatcha want?  I get wheels & fuel & wire & cetera from my local RC hobby shop, whose staff, after several years, has gotten inured to the idea of flying airplanes on strings.  I get some paint and balsa from the local Michael's "Hobby" store -- basically none of it is model related, but there's a lot of crossover.  More paint supplies come from Home Depot or the local pro paint supplies store.

Finally, if it's CL specific I mail-order from Brodaks and/or National Balsa.

It's all out there, but you have to be flexible.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Charles this was a surprising post from you in my mind
Mainly because you don't say WHAT you need to find

When I got back into the hobby, I was (like almost everybody) disappointed by all Local Hobby Shops but don't fault them as the current list of what sells has changed.

My LHS caters to the RC car crowd and has very little cross over to RC or CL airplane stuff

fortunately I find that the internet, nitch or "Tower" type places have a better selection and prices that my best LHS if my youth had

My biggest issues these days finding some thing I need is qualifying for free or low cost shipping

Lowe's, Home depot. Ace, WalMart, Michael's, Hobby Lobby, JoAnn's, Hancock fabric and even Good Will (heavy glass, Maple furniture chaep) have supplied me

I am a constant customer of:

MBS
RSM
Randy Smith
Lees Machine
Hobby King
Tower
Horizon Hobby
Doug Galbreath
Texas timers
Pat Johnston
Paul Gibeault
Mike Griffin
Black Hawk
Brodak
Minnesota Modeler
Select Hobby
E-BAY
Shutterman
Omni Models

Perhaps a future customer of Avaiojet's AKA Charles and CFG if he stops busting my chops about this silly post

Point being... I was, a few years back pissing and moaning that the LSH sucked

BUT find I have some many MORE resources NOW than I had in 1969 Oakland California

So brother, whatcha looking for?

Fred,

I don't see "CFC Graphics" on your list?

Don't you know I supply many modelers with award winning graphics and custom paint masks and have for twenty years.

I have many CL customers, some win the NATS! How could you not put CFC Graphics on that list?  LL~

I do have sources for much of what I need. If I get in a bind, I Post on SH Forum. I just like to visit Hobby Shops if I don't have to go to far out of my way.

I do need large Fox bellcranks,  but I have a Classified ad for that.

Thanks for the replies.

Charles

OH! You asked what I needed. I could use some money.  ;D

Actually Charles I do need a few specialty decals for some of the nostalgia combat planes I am making and need to fuss with you about how to find some of the original box art, colors and fonts

An example is the MONGOOSE on the box art fro a Dick Mathis combat plane but they never provided any decal in the kit

Fred,

Did you edit your Post to add CFC Graphics?  LL~

Here's the thing about art. I create art all the time from what is supplied. The more I have to go by the easier it is for me to draw/produce it.

I get sent decals and I copy the art. Same with good photos.

That Mongoose art isn't difficult at all, but I would obviously need the color and measurements will help. I can get close in look even without measurements.

Many CL modelers sport CFC Graphics, or have purchased paint masks.

I've been doing art and graphics a long long time. My whole life actually. ;D

Charles I have followed many threads here, many yours, but quite a few others who use your craft, skills and products and I am always impressed

I plan to pick your brain and get a quote or two in the not too distant future... a lot depends on my, not yet decided, color schemes

For years the rat race had me going around in circles, Now I do it for fun!

Fred,

Having my stuff on a NATS winner, couple of years in a row, was a really good thing. I don't get many request from the CL guys, I do mostly R/C, large stuff and Wardbirds. Most of the Warbird models are around 100" and larger,.

Choosing models by color schemes is quite common. I've had R/C modelers check with me first to make sure they could get graphics or masks for their project before starting it.

I've made graphics for a few really large models, 120" plus, and full scale aerobatic aircraft like the Extra 300, plus some full scale test Drones, not quads, for a University. I try to be as accurate as I can with my scale stuff.

Fred, do you know how to "Edit" your Post? You gotta add "CFC Graphics" to that list. Ya killing me!   LL~ LL~ LL~
