Hobby shop problems...
« on: March 14, 2008, 02:33:51 PM »
So I went to the hobby shop by my house (the only one) to buy some control line parts for my 1/2A Student I am building.  A bell crank and a control horn.  so they gave me the control horns right away but they gave me a 90 degree bell crank.  I told them no and drew them a picture and they discussed it for about 5 minutes and came up with a bell crank that looked like this

        o
        o
o o o O o o o o o o o o o o o o

the long part was around 6" long. and it was around 1/4" thick.  they told me that was what all the U-control guys use.   LL~
and one of the guys was the owner.
I need a new hobby shop...

Just contact Jim Snelson at CLC after he get back home from VSC for your control line stuff or even MBS Model Supply also.  Melvin should be home as he doesn't fly stunt.  By the way go into a so called hobby shop and ask for a glow plug clip.  4 shops in KC area and every one handed me a head lock ni starter.  DOC Holliday

It's the Vintage stun Championships held every March in Tucson. Actually the very first one was held in California. The following 19 have been in Tucson. The two biggest events Old Time and Classic and there is also a special competition for Old Time planes using ignition engines. It's one of the best attended contests with around 80 entrants in Classic and Old Time and usually 10 or so in Ignition. A lot of people attend just to watch and visit.

I needed a wrist pin for an OS FP40 clone.  Last Monday, I went to Hobbyco in Sydney—it's only been around for 50+ years—with the OS part number and FP40 written on a piece of paper.

Now please tell me there are a raft of other manufacturers that use the same sort of arcane part numbering that OS does.

The knuckle head in the shop did not even know what an FP was.  He was just as vague when I said the same part was used in the LA40 and a 4-stroke.  Then he specifically asked, 'Who was the manufacturer?'

Then I was told that they only order parts once a month and then, oinly at the end of the month so I would have a three week wait—if they had sufficient orders to make their minimum order value.

I know that Tower will deliver the part before the end of the month.

It's the same the world over.  HB~> HB~>
