On April 1, 2006, I presented John Brodak with an Aeromite that I found at a flea market and restored for him.
The Aeromite was his first powered model, and it was also mine!

Speech I gave when I presented the Aeromite to John.

"We all remember our first – first date, first car any many other things.

For many people in this room who share the passion for model aviation, it was their first model airplane. How many of you remember yours?

I remember mine – a little red Aeromite that I got for Christmas in the early 50s. I recently learned that John Brodak and I have something in common – the Aeromite was also his first plane. I think both of ours went the same route – a short flight then many pieces.

Sometimes, a combination of luck and timing allows us to rekindle certain childhood memories. After many hours of work, I was able to turn a flea market ugly duckling into something that I hope will be treasured forever."

I had a WenMac Cessna Trainer. Big model!
30 inch wing span, all flying tail, Hot Shot engine. Chris Brownhill and I did get it to fly... level. That was about it.

I think tis is the model Robbie flew in the |my Three Sons"  "Air Derby" episode. I had never seen one before that. In all of the plastic RTF models that have been produced, it's funny how some of them seemed to never make it to some parts of the country.

Watching the videos of the Wen-Mac models made me think of this Cox Prop Rod.  I don't remember when or where I got it, but I went to the shop and there it sat on my work benck.  Gave it a good cleaning and pulled a Babe Bee out of the 1/2A engines box.  Made a tether post and ran it in the drive way today.  Drive way was rough on it but managed several laps with it. Seems as if AMF was a "kiss of death" to a lot of their acquisitions, most notable being Harley. They paid pretty good money for Harley, added some of their nifty marketing and engineering ideas and sold for pennies on the dollar.

Glad this thread motivated you to run your car.

WEN-MAC history is a nice idea.  Too bad their narrator couldn't try to speak more clearly.  That was compounded by the limited audio bandwidth they put with the video.
90 years, but still going (mostly)

At age 13, back in 1967, I remember starting the engine on my younger brother's Wen Mac all chrome F4U Corsair. (It came in a box with a 1957 Chevy tether-line dragster, engine was to be shared with both). My impressions were it had the power of a Cox Babe Bee. This was the .049 Rotomatic engine with glow head, not glow plug.
