Title: History Lesson
Post by: Paul Taylor on January 28, 2008, 06:59:52 AM
So I give my buddy Leo a hard time about flying bassackwards. LL~

I got to thinking...

What direction did it start? And if it was clockwise who changed it and why?

Before my time.  At the time I started only speed planes flew CW.  Everything else was up to the individual designer.   DOC Holliday

Most speed flyers flew clockwise early on because the engine torque kept tended to keep the lines from going slack on takeoff.  I think the main reason to switch speed to CW was the advent of monoline.  Right handers find it easier to fly the pylon going CW with two-handed monoline.

As far as my history goes I think I just was't too smart bulding those Demeco kits that flew Clockwise. Actually this is harder on the judges than it is me. LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~ HB~>
