Does the newly listed kit of Hi Johnson's Stuka (BMJR?) build up as a flat wing or with the tapered inverted gull design like Hi's original?

    I would think that if the wing was flat, it wouldn't be a Hi Johnson Stuka. That isn't how he designed it. It flies fine with the bent wing, although it is a bit of a challenge to build. I would guess that some sort of jigging has been engineered on the kit to make it more palatable. Build it as designed and be the envy of all your flying buddies!

     Years ago I saw Dennis Schauer (long deceased) fly an original Hi Johnson Stuka powered with a Johnson "Stunt" and I was impressed. It was all black similar to the photo on the kit.   Some day -----------

If I remember right, the one at VSC was just identical to Hi Johnson's design.   It did not compete.  I think Bob Whitney flew the Stunt Wing they are making also.

If I were to build one I'd have to send it to you, Larry, to have the dope finish sanded, compounded, and final polished what with the close rib spacing on the open bay areas.  You'd be glad to do that - right, Larry?

Just some trivia for ya'll, my son Shawn built the Stuka and attempted to
fly it at the Nat's one year. He was just barely good enough to fly inverted
and it was my fault that he crashed it as I pushed him too hard. As far as
the difficulty of building it Shawn is a great free flite modeller and was able
to get it done without too much trouble. He built it exactly to plan and
covered it with silkspan, had no problems with the undercamber as he had
built many free flites with that type of airfoil. Just to make you guys feel
worse the plane all up ready to go weighed 39oz! It flew great and would
have done really well with a little more practice.  I am going to build one
shortly and we'll see if I can do as well as my kid.  RJ

    I remember that RJ, but it was VSC and I have pictures of him with it. REALLY nice model. I think he flew a Stuntwagon 30 that year also in Old Time. I liked the camo job he did on that Stuka,(some sort of desert scheme?) and would prefer that if I were to build one.
     I was going to jump in with that, but couldn't remember if it was Shawn or Sean!!!

    Now that I think about it, Bob , it was the NATS wasn't it? I'll have to dig the photo out to tell, but got to thinking about it remembered we were on the grass circle side of the L-pad?
   I've slept too many times since then! I've been to more VSC contests than NATS so I think that influenced my memory.

According to the website it is the polyhedral/polliwog wing of the original, but is designed so that it can built on a flat board

It's interesting to go back and read the published article.  The plane in the pictures is not built according to the plans.  It has a regular airfoil and flat plate flaps, a lot like a Barnstormer.  The plans show a polywog airfoil with a fairly wide trailing edge.

The article also mentions that you should change the tail size and the fuselage length to match the engine you use and how you like the plane to feel.

But the Spitfire is a classic looking plane.  I always liked elliptical wings.

Hi Phil, you are correct and to the best of my knowledge I have built one of the only 2 ever built.
(B.T.W. cad plans are very slowly in the works)

Everyone needs a Spitfire!  Several choices out there.  Mine is rather large at 61" wingspan and RO-JETT76.  It also features retracting landing gear.

as mentioned it is very slowly in da works but to answer your ? no I do not.

My son Walt owns this plane now and I saw it just two weeks ago and it's just as you see it here
and after 10 years it still has never been flown or had the engine started.

Here is a built up Hi Johnson Stuka wing, ready for final assembly.
Ive been building for a very long time and consided myself a pretty fair builder, but I have to admit, this is with out a doubt, the most difficult wing I have ever built.
I'll post more pictures as the plane goes together
