Can someone please tell me if either or both of these planes are eligible for N/40? If not when? Many thanks for your input!

John Brodak contacted me in  late 1999 about working with Allen Brickhauss.  John had wanted to offer Allen's 60 sized Buccaneer as an all balsa kit. The company who had been making the kit had shifted to RC, but wouldn't release the rights. not even to Allen, so Brodak's answer was to create a new design.

I had become acquainted with Allen many years before when I lived in the Midwest. John asked if I could work with Allen, and help design a new stunter over the phone. We did, and that's how the Legacy was designed and drawn. In mid-2000, the final iteration of the files were sent to Brodak, and work began on producing the kit.

It was about this time that Allen called me about his friend Walt Moore wanting a .40 sized drawing. I assumed that he wanted to reduce the CAD plans so he could build a smaller Legacy. Since Walt has some skill in CAD, I sent Allen the original .60 sized plans files, Allen gave the files to Walt, and he scaled them down to wind up with the Legacy 40. This answers the question of the design dates, or release dates to establish age of designs. The case may be made that since the design is the same, and the files were simply scaled down, that they  could be considered the same age.

In any case both versions are a fine tribute to one of the nicest guys I've had the pleasure of knowing.

Hi John, Many thanks for your response to my query! I had a hunch that the planes were too young for n-30 but just had to raise the point! For many years I helped to run and ran the Racing events at the FlyIn first under the tutelage of Tom Hampshire and Allen and then under tom and Will before Mark Weiss come on the scene. I agree that Al was a fine gent and witty as well!
