Hey Wes: look here!
« on: October 26, 2020, 08:00:55 PM »
So, one of the victims of this year's World-Wide-Ringmaster-A-Thon was my saber-dancing SuperRingmaster.  Sorta destroyed it.  But I saved the wing.

Problem is I didn't have the Sterling Super Ringmaster plans.  And if I did, they wouldn't help much since they don't show the parts.  I only needed to build a new fuselage so just needed some templates.

Wes Eakin to the rescue!  Got the tracings in the mail yesterday and got them cut out tonight (what else was I going to do?  No series game tonight...)  He did the tracings on cardboard so they'll work perfectly for templates.

Now I have to dig through my balsa stash to find some appropriately crappy balsa for an appropriately crappy airplane.  I should be back saber-dancing with her next spring!

Thanks Wes!!

And it had a muffler..

I made a balsa model of it and Mark S. made the real thing!  He's an artist in metal!

I flew it a bunch of times.  Of course, you didn't show up at the flying field, so you didn't see them.   n1

You don't have the proper shovel for doing that anyway.  You need a grain shovel to properly scoop up the pieces.  You can't bury remains at our flying site.  No digging without an Environmental Impact Statement.

If you went out and bought a grain shovel you could use it for scooping up your Impact after it makes impact...

Ooops!  Too late!   ;D

But then I got sidetracked.  For Christmas I decided to build little wooden cars for my niece and nephews (6 in all).

So, I got some clear pine and started cutting.  Had some wood leftover and figured "oh well".  so now I am working on 8 little wooden cars.

Unfortunately my time line is bad (that means I assumed I'd get more done in the allotted time than I had) so the bad news is that they will arrive a little late.  I guess the good news is that they will arrive just about the time the kids get tired of the stuff they got for Christmas.

Here are some progress pictures.

Here I've included a picture of the one I built a couple of years ago for my grandson.

Really cute! Good job! Attaboy!  H^^ Steve

PS: It looks a lot like the Pinewood Derby car I made (for myself, from the BSA kit) while my son hammered one together for himself. Mine has an aluminum grill, dashboard, 3 spoked, rubber rimmed steering wheel and is pretty reminiscent of the LM Cox sprint car that shares shop space with it.

It is almost ready to cover (the wings with ultracoat.)  I have the fillets on the head-rest, rudder, and stab all done except for final sanding of the filler-coat.  I may leave the body in silver as the ultracoat is a gawd-awful yellow.  So will sorta look pre-war.

Notice that I am doing an open cockpit as opposed to the typical Super-Ringmaster canopy.  Figure 8 threaded hinges.

The old Fox 35 will go back in it.  It was perfect for saber-dancing!
