Shiny Fox 35

I was looking through my engine drawer for a Fox 35 for a current project and ran across a polished Fox 35.  Trying to remember when this engine was released?

   As Tom said, a picture would be a big help here. The first "Polished Case" .35 was a tumbled finish.It dates back to 1972. Does yours have muffler lugs? More info will be needed to date it properly.

Taking a photo will not be a problem...me trying to load it to this forum may be a "real big" problem...but I will try and Bill the 35 does not have mounting lugs.

  Make sure when you post the pictures you put one in showing the exhaust side. It will help to identify your engine. The no muffler lugs tells me you may have a 15th Anniversary engine. The later ones were not Gold colored they had a "Bright" finish. That would date the engine to 1963. Don't get your hopes up, this is not written in stone I need to see the engine.

Here is a 1972 shiney 35 stunt.  This guy has the vertical muffler mounts and "as cast" face on the exhaust.

Here are a 1973 shiney stunt 35, has the vertical ears, but note how the exhaust is faced off.  A major problem with the first Fox mufflers (1972) was the as cast face on both the muffler and the exhaust; you could never get a snug fit and loosening of course occurred.  I used to draw file mine flat and had no problems.  Fox did this for us in 1973 and also changed his muffler to "envelope" the stack.

The other engine is a shiney 1975 stunt 35.  This year Duke added the horizontal "ears".  Now you could use these to hold on the muffler.  They were very weak and couldn't survive much vibration or a crash.  This was the last of the shiney 35s.

If you engine has no muffler mounting provisions at all, it is probably a 1963 Fox 15th anniversary special with the gold plating worn off or a SIG contest prize engine with the gold worn off.  The first of the 1963 engines had gold plated head bolts and rear cover bolts.

Here's the gold plated 1963 stunt 35.  This is one I sold and the plating is mostly gone from the head, but you'll get the idea.

Alan, It's the Gold 1963.  The plating was very light and quickly disappeared with use or handling.  That is also the plug that came in those engines.

Lost internet Wednesday, so I couldn't get back to you!

I have a '63 "Gold" and so does Phil Green.  Both ours have pretty much lost the color off the crankcase from being run.......
