Hey Frank, Leroy
« on: September 14, 2006, 09:36:58 AM »
Ok, Im a little bent....  I inadvertantly had cut lightening holes in the wing of my golden hawk since it was so heavy and I had seen the pics of Art's yellow and black one. So, I went to the event section to read about the flying event details for Kalamazoo. I stumbled on the "solid wing only" dealy.... does this mean that I can't enter the thing? Crap, Im running out of time...

Peter;
    It is still the somewhat flat wing that came with the Kit? If so I would say it is OK. How much weight did you get out of it? These little buggers are heavy as they come. I really hollow out the fuselages. All of the ones I have seen fly good straight and level. They will also do a decent wingover, but I'm not sure how anyone will be able to do the one required loop. Let alone the the two bonus maneuvers.

Hey there SHWEW I didnt know what i was gonna do, the 30th is smoking up quick... ya, its still the flat board wing. I just used a 2 " forstner bit in the drill press and cut 4 holes. it removed .2 ounces.  Hollowing out the fuse gave me .3 on my ohaus scale. I am going to use tissue on the wing.
Jay Williams flew his pitts last weekend and he got a couple loops and some inverted action going after he threw that Galbreth (spelling) head in his black widow. At this point i think its all down to skill and how fast you can run backwards for tension. Jays Golden Hawk and Pitts are awesome...

I'm hoping a lot of guys will try out the racing event. I think we will work it as a double elimination thing that way everyone will at least get to fly twice. Even little 1/2a flying three in a circle is exciting! #^ #^

Hey Leroy and Peter, I just found this post.  I think you'll be able to fly the Hawk with the holes cut in the wing. I'm not the one writing the rules or judging but I think it'll be O.K.

Gentlemen;
    I confired with my co CD Rick last night and we feel as long as the wing is still flat, that it will be no problem. Just make sure you started with a solid wing, and do nothing more than drill some lightening holes.
