Here we go again
« on: September 04, 2017, 08:01:30 PM »
Once more a hurricane has Florida in its sights. Irma this time. It's still a way off, but current forecasts bring it very near Florida. It is too powerful to ignore. As usual, only time will tell. Have to watch this one carefully. More later.

Well you take care and stay high and dry.    My daughter says she does not miss hurricane season or the ants.   She does miss the ocean.  Since she has moved back to this area we have had mild winters.    H^^

Hello Garf
The island of Puerto Rico is in the path of Irma which is a category 5 with sustained winds of 180mph. It will be here tomorrow afternoon and I have already taken all the precautions. Is not the first time I have been thru one so I know what to expect. I live about 300 feet above sea level and I don`t expect any flooding. I bought food that needs no refrigeration and water.
I also worry about Florida since my son lives and works in Miami. I just hope the hurricane loses strength as it hits the Islands of Puerto Rico,Santo Domingo and Cuba and you guys don`t get hit as hard as we are going to get.
                                                                                                                                        Juan

Juan,
Sounds like you've done about all that you can to prepare for the storm.  Best of luck to you and your family and friends.  I, and I'm sure many others here on Stunt Hanger, will pray for you and all of Puerto Rico.

Just finished putting up the Hurricane shutters, Got the water supply stocked up, so the wife and I are are set. Marci's mom is getting hospice care at her home in Boca, not sure what we will do with her situation but worst case we will have her evacuated to a critical care facility if things get bed. But won't know until Thursday or Friday at the earliest. The stores are a zoo, but in Florida people know to get ready days in advance. The only thing I can never figure out is what all these people do with all that plywood from the last time they emptied the stores of the stuff. But it's been 11 or 12 years since Wilma and Charlie so I guess we've dodged the bullet all these years.

Juan, You guys have to petition for statehood, this way you can qualify for hurricane relief. I know it comes with a bunch of other entanglements but then, everything come with undesirable baggage. Anywho keep your head down and best of luck.

Irma is going to be another Hugo, It is at 185 mph and the latest fore cast indicates it is intensifying. This may be the most intense hurricane in the Atlantic in history. 190 mph, 200 mph winds may need to have a category 6 assigned. This would make Hugo and Katrina a strong breeze in comparison.

It looks like Puerto Rico is in the bulls eye. This will tell us if this thing is as bad as it looks from here. Good luck. You're going to need it.

There is no category 6. 5 is as high as it gets. Above that it is guess work.

Hello All
Thanks for the comments and wishes. I`m worried about this hurricane for what it might do to the whole Island. I built my house following the construction codes and is built out of cement, blocks and rebar even the roof. I have been thru a  hurricane here and the house has survived with no damage but not a monster hurricane like Irma. Thanks for your prayers and I hope that the hurricane loses steam before hitting us. Now I have one more day to wait to see what happens. I will get up very early in the morning to lower my satellite antennas I had forgotten about them.

I'm in Hollywood. I'm packing all my books in trash bags along with pictures and anything of value. Lived through Andrew, I lived 5 minutes by car from Country Walk where the eye passed through. Major disaster I don't wish to go through that again. Seems this is close, but we'll see. Hope you're all set, snug and tight
Good luck

Lets see how this goes, if you need help let me know. Marci's mom is getting moved to a critical care facility run by hospice, so she will be situated. I've got this place buttoned down about as tight as it can get. Charles if it looks to get too hairy over there and we are better off down the road then can work something out. We are right across the street from the preserve which may be a good or bad thing. At least we are west of turnpike which again may be a good thing or bad thing, at least we will not have to worry about storm surge and there are no canals near by. As for the cars... One of ours will be in the Garage and the other will have to take it's chances outside. I could get one perhaps squeeze an extra one into the driveway but that's about it.

Made it thru the hurricane. Luckily it moved north and we didn't get hit by the strongests winds. Knocked down trees and we lost electrical power. We have no damage to our house or to those nearby.thanks for your thoughts and prayers.

Looks like Irma is going to go up the west coast of Florida after crossing the Florida keys. In Miami, we are due to get tropical storm force winds. This is not etched in stone, but we will see.

Here she comes:

I was rooting for you...glad it is all good. My wife kept asking about all of you on the island, hoping all is well.  If the hurricane maintains its current track, we could get some weather action here in South Arkansas. Keep an eye on the new one...hurricane "Jose."

Here in clearwater it is going to be an interesting ride. If we had this forecast sooner, we'd be in dallas now with my mother in law... but so it goes. Hunkering down in a block home with new roof and windows, boarded up and not in a flood evac zone. Our issue will be wind... it'll be almost as bad as the Starke, Florida King Orange that Derek Barry and Steve Fitton had the fly-off in... now THAT was scary. Heh. Joking aside, going to go under the radar for a while to save power soon... talk to y'all on the flip side.

               Hello Norm
I`m back online thank god and able to follow the weather better. We didn`t get hit as hard but there are places on the Island without power or water and it might take a while to get them running. In my side which is the west we are doing better ,we have power and water and the force of the hurricane knocked down a few trees but not as bad as what I seen happened to nearby Island.
I have been in contact with my son who lives in Miami and they are starting to feel the hurricane. he had to evacuate the apartment he is living in due to it being close to the ocean. He is staying with a friend in another building farther away. At this time they are running on generator power. I think the electrical grid has been shutdown to protect the system. Well that`s what was done locally so I assume they are doing the same. My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Florida. Thanks for your concern.
                                                                                                                                                                            Juan

All is well here at my brothers, we decided to combine our resources at his place across town. Was a great choice because he never lost power and our families kept each other company. The officials are saying to stay off the roads a little longer while they clear trees, power lines etc... not easy as I am dying to go see how our home faired.

We were spared the cat4 landfall at the expense of Naples to the south of us. I hope they are ok. From what I see of the cat2 winds we did get, a cat4 landfall would have devistated our area.

It's over. No damage. Power out for 2 days. Computer and TV back also. No gas available for a while because the port of entry for the gas, Port Everglades, has no power.

Right after Irma we needed this "Maria" like another hole in the head.. Lost power on Sunday, didn't get power until about 10:00 am Saturday one week later. Better than Andrew, month plus!  This heat, no A/C, no cool winds sucks mule eggs! Glad everyone here is safe and good to fly another day!

Our local gas station has gas. Now if they would just get the traffic signals working. The animals here ignore the non working signals. Several good crashes. I still remember trying to drive across town after Andrew.

And all I worry about is the occasional tornado and heavy rains.    The winter time coming on the snow has not been that bad for the last couple of years.  Maybe one heavy snow fall that may take a day for me to scoop off.   Not worth having a snow blower.

This hurricane season is officially over. Barring any post season surprises, we will start over with the first storm next season.
