Hello Doc.  We head for HI average twice a year, when weather in Oregon gets me almost to the point of violence to others.

Once, during my Lockheed days, I was assigned a project at Pearl Harbor (submarine base) which lasted 3 months!  WOW!  Some sun-tan!

Hey doc!

We go every year with the family. Stay mostly at the Kona Coast Resort. Stay away from the T-Shirt girls in Kialua and enjoy the sun.

Yea, what is wrong with T-shirt girls.  We have T-shirt girls here in Florida and I have never seen anything wrong with them.  And, believe me, I have looked and looked and looked.  I feel an urge to go to the beach this afternoon.

Retired, living in Florida, flying CL and looking at T-shirt girls.  Who could ask for anything more?

Sorry, guys. Sort of an inside joke. There was a big scam running a couple of years ago involving sexy girls selling T-Shirts in the Islands.

The problem with Hawaii is that it relaxes so much, lowers the blood pressure, etc. that
it must be impossible to actually WORK there.

And it does seem like the wind blows quite a bit - maybe I'm referring to the wrong side
of the islands..

Larry,

The Trades blow most times on the windward side of Da Big Island. 5-10 mph. Not much rain. sort of like the deserts of Idaho with a beach. And yea, it's not hard to develop Polynesian Paralysis. Sort of staring off into space with a silly grin on your face. Takes about a week to unwind, another week to really get into it. By the end of the third week, I'm ready to come home. But it is nice, that's certain.

Just remember what Kimo say: if you o'vr da hill, you pickin' up speed.

Well I made it back Thursday evening(08/07/2008).  I am still trying to recover from the overnight flight.  Lots to see and do.  We toured Oahu on the first tour.  Have already decided that is not the right island.  Had a ranch dinner upon the northern mountain.  The head man stated that we could go from rain forest to desert on the ranch.  The sunset was something as we looked down at the clouds.  Then the helicopter tour around the Big Island.  Nothing like looking down inside a live volcano.  Followed lava tube to the ocean and watched as the stuff exploded into the air.  The trip into the valleys was a little unnerving, especially at the key hole.  The last tour was the bus ride around the Big Island.  Did go snorkeling at the Captain Cook memorial cove and playing in the surf at Magic Sands Beach.  So great to get home tho.  DOC Holliday

I don't think HI winds are any worse than other places.  During my long stay there, there was usually 1/2-A combat going on at Ala Moana Park (on Oahu- near Waikiki) on Sat and Sunday AM.  I think the winds come up in the afternoon, but good weather for C/L most mornings.

There is lots of R/C activity just west of Waikiki, near the beach.

On the bus tours could see a lot of places to fly control line on Oahu and Hawaii(Big Island).  Flying in the helicopter a lot of places to fly.  The winds didn't seem that bad away from the coast lands.  Upon the mountains sides it is amazing how cool it got.  Still recovering,  DOC Holliday
