I found this picture in my files and am wondering if it's the Sterling F-51. The only reason I think it's Sterling is because the fuel tubing is labeled Sterline....a typo? Any info on this would be appreciated. I would also like to know what wingspan it is. Thanks for any and all help. H^^

Sterling it is.

Sure looks like the Sterling P-51 from the sixties. It was the mate to the Sterling Yak-9. I built a couple of each they were designed my Matt Kania (sic) same guy that designed the Ringmaster. Anyway that what it looks like to me.

Yep, for a while, Sterling sold fuel tubing, called (wait for it................) Sterline!
;D
That is the little "two view" from the corner of the Sterling plans. Closest thing Sterling ever did to actual "plans" on their "instructions". OTS legal in flapped or non flapped versions. ;D
To Andy: From the '50s. ;D All three of that "series" (Ringmaster, P-51D, Yak 9) are OTS legal, pre-1953.

Bill is exactly right.
The scan is from my plans and posted here on Stunt Hanger. I think that tracing were made from the parts.
This is link to airplane built from kit that these plans are for.

It is a superb flying little plane on a Fox 35. I love mine. Just makes me smile every time I fly it.

Thanks for the information so far. Jim, your's looks very nice. I went to that Stunt Hanger posting and read the article but could'nt find any specs. What is the wingspan on this ship. Is it the same as the Yak? Does anyone have the parts traced? I can use what's there to make a plan, so that's ok. Any help is appreciated H^^

The wingspan is 38". The plans that come with the kits are not full size, and are just assembly instructions. Bill Schmidt in Wichita Ks. has plans to sell for it that he did from a kit. I think there are others out there also.

Brodak kits their version of the Sterling P-51 Mustang. Externally, it's the same, but the structure has been modified to some extent, hopefully for the better...it'd almost have to be better; couldn't be a lot worse. Brodak does sell plans for their kits, and it is supposed to be possible to scratch build off them. Check their website for plans cost... I think about $10 plus postage, customs, and storage fees... All of Brodaks plans are builders plans. You can even buy a template sheet so you don't have to buy two sets as some do to cut parts .

Thank you all. I can make some plans useing the little drawing and the wing span. Its reall all I need. Thanks very much. H^^

Yep, Sterling's S-2 Mustang spanned 38".....the Yak-9 was 40".....and they each sold for $2.95 when they first hit the market.

yup had all 52-53 jim ...... built mustang 1st , yak 2nd then ringmaster

Man that is flat out cool stuff! H^^

Thanks for the file Glenn. And nice Mustang Jim. D>K

Thanks guys; I am really amazed at how well this thing fly's. After I put heavier wheels on it, and tweeked the outboard flap a little, it fly's better than my 28 ounce Ringmaster. At about 30 ounces with only 338 square", I was doing triangles and hitting that bottom corner as hard as I could without a stall. Flaps a big deal on this plane. With the heavier wheels and warped flap it now fly's flat upright and inverted.

Now I'm excited to know that the Mustang and Yak-9 are OTS legal. Here are the plans to the Mustang:
