I'm sorry Mr. Cain, but in light of your anti-BOM stance, I cannot support your bid for AMA Executive VP. Please don't confuse this with how I feel about you as a modeler. I see that you do personally build your planes and always have good advice for others on the forum. But this BOM thing is going to come to a head and I would want a pro-BOM candidate to represent the C/L community.

Thank you, Mr. Ormosen, for your candid and direct response. I do appreciate your viewpoint. One other point that you might consider is: Are there any individuals either running for AMA office or trying to run for AMA office, or currently in an AMA office, other than Charlie Bauer, that cares for the Control Line Community at all?

Again, Thank You for your response.

If I could I would easily vote for you.  At the very least the control line community would be represented for once.  Besides....for any change to happen, it must come from the voting fliers, not one personin office.  Even as the president of the organization, you have no say other than one vote.

Good luck Mr. Cain. H^^

Consider this. AMA dues are $58 per year. 99% I bet goes towards funding the AMA's RC representation efforts. What do you get for your money. A magazine the majority of which is RC oriented. And insurance that again is geared towards the risks inherant to the RC community. Now would'nt it be nice if for your $58 bucks you at least had representation in the executive offices of the organization? Someone who knows for a fact that CL still exists and did not die out 20 years ago?

Besides as stated by another individual, the rules are decided and voted on by the members and not by the executive staff. They create and implement overall AMA programs and manage relations with external entities, not to mention how your $58 bucks are allocated and spent.

Think that a VP who knows and is interested in RC believes in a BOM rule? Or how about someone with little or no modeling experience but some ex middel manager or business executive?

CL has long since been the bastard stepchild the AMA had to deal with, they could easily strip CL from their programs and membership and not miss it one tiny bit, actually it would simplify contest sanctioning, Nats operations, and a whole lot of other stuff. In the grand scheme of things for the AMA in 2011 CL has probably a very poor return on investment.

I think $58 is a bargain.  Just wait; when the multi-million $ judgements start happening, the cost of your
AMA (insurance) will rise.

Why do I think so?

AMA, and the R/C businesses, in particular, are heading toward bigger and faster R/C planes which will be in the hands of some who will take chances with safety.  I am personally frightened watching 60 lb. planes, and turbo-jet powered models.  A rash of accidents with these things will eventually bankrupt the AMA.

Is it going to rise? Would not surprise me one bit, as the risk assesments come back on the behemoth's the RC community is embracing. The thing that kills me is that CL's foot print is far lower yet we are still charged the premium. They AMA has special rates for RC park flyiers, notice that CL does not even rate as high as them to have our own pricing options. So when it comes to voting for people who have a direct say on who pays what, I say better a CL Modeler than not.

Up until now the insurance carriers have been ignorant to what is actually being flown out there. The RC community and the AMA have been sort of flying under the radar
this wonlt last forever, only until the first high profile accident happens with one of the big RC beasts. Then in this age of instant media transmission every activist and media outlet will be all over it and BAM, say bye bye.

I think Hoss's position on BOM is less important than his pro C/L attitude.  As for the cost of AMA insurance, with car insurance at $1200/yr, home insurance at $1700/yr, and health insurance $astronomical/yr, the AMA insurance at $58/yr is pretty insignifigant especially since it is a luxury item.

Man, I hope you're saying that tongue in cheek.  Sure, the whole BOM thing is fun to argue over, but I'd rather vote for someone who knows that the BOM rule exists and how it applies to CPLA than vote for someone who things a BOM is something that a terrorist might make out of a radio control ARF.

Horrace I sent in your nomination & CC'd you.
To  my knowledge, you are one of (only!) two officers or past officers to donate cash or real property to the ama.
There have been some who either leave an estate donation in a will, or during theur lifetime, have their company make a donation.
THere have been times we differed. But you always put your money where your mouth was and you were always honest.
Good luck in the election, old friend

Thank you very much, Vince. Your nomination is a real honor for me. You have, "...been there, done that..." and laid it on the line, especially when you served as AMA Executive Director.

Again, Thank You much and I am very honored.

Mr. Wescott, Thank You for posting this.

I wrote to AMA and received this response.

For your information:

The statement below is posted in a well known model airplane forum.

This is not the first of such notifications that I have received. I have directly received other information of the same magnitude.

Please be advised that such actions on your part are unacceptable and I find such actions concerning an AMA member's right to nominate another member to AMA Office to be reprehensible.

At this point, I simply request that you take positive action to stop such denials of email nominations.

To ALL:

Thanks much for your support. There have been a fair number of nominations, and I do say "Thank You" to  everyone that has stood up to be counted. Great Work.

At first there was some, shall I say "mishandling" of the emails. However Ms. Joyce Hager and Ms. Lisa Johnson jumped in and it well appears that all problems have been solved and items corrected.
I also thank them for their quick response

Member nominations stop June 16th. The Nominating Committee meets on July 16th. This one should be interesting.  S?P

Again, AMA Members, Thank You much for your support.

Many Thanks to all that supported me. Unfortunately I did not make the CUT for the ballot when the Nominating Committee met.  If anyone wishes more information about the situation, please contact me via PM and I will get back to you with my email address if it should be long, or by telephone if you wish.

As an AMA member since  a teenager, many years of dedication to model aviation in many walks, I am very concerned about where AMA is now being directed. However that is now all the same as the movie, "Gone with the Wind."

Again, Thank you all for your efforts, and maybe I will see you next year at the CL Nats or such. BTW, I did fly my Ringmaster yesterday. CL is going to be my main activity next year. I PROMISE you but please don't get mad about that!  :##   ;D   LL~
