Hello Folks, I'm kinda new here. I've made a few meager comments, but mostly I've just been hangin around reading and learning. I do recognize some of you guys from other forums that I also visit. I started flying 1/2a controlline for fun back in the early seventies. In the late seventies and early eighties I flew 1/2a controlline and dreamed of RC. I never got into RC though. Along came college, wife, kids, work, and bills so model airplanes pretty much went on hold. Now I read forums and dream about controlline. For a little over a year I've been getting back into the hobby slowly. I,ve revived some old cox engines, experimented with fuels and props, and have a couple of 1/2a planes in process. I'd love to show you guys some pictures but I'm on a slow even for dialup connection and almost can't upload a picture(or maybe I just don't know the trick). Back in about may I saw Dee Rice and Richard Oliver along with some other skilled flyers flying at a contest. I didn't get to meet them but I sure enjoyed watching. Now I'm really rehooked. Lately I've been dreaming of bigger planes--maybe a flight streak or similar if the money allows(still got bills). Anyway, I enjoy reading the forum. Glad you guys make it possible.

Wayne,
Welcome to the party.

Welcome on board. You'll love flying even more when you go to a larger airplane. Easier to fly and you don't get as dizzy., Unless you have a screaming 35 on a combat wing. Spend a lot of time learning with the 1/2 A's. They don't break up as bad when you hit the ground. When you have mastered flying these and doing basic maneuvers, it will be easy to move up to larger airplanes and hopefully not put as many in the ground as you advance.

A while back I saw a beautiful red stunt plane. When it took off the bottom side of the wings had in white letters "TEXAS SUCKS". If I'd been a little less shy, I'd have found the owner and informed him that the message needed to be printed in spanish also.

Welcome Wayne. I too, am a Texan. Way down here in Beaumont. I know whatcha mean about the slow connection and picture posting. Just ask the guys about my picture posting skills. ROFLMAO!!
Tell me something. Does Mount Pleasant still have that dirt track? Back in the '60s, I raced a stock car there 2 - 3 times a month.

Welcome, Wayne! I am sure you will find that CLPA guys are about the greatest around. Just don't try to strike up a conversation before an official flight! #^
Have fun, and don't be shy.

Hi Nick,
Another dirt tracker, huh?? We didn't get into it until later in life, around the mid-late '70s. we kept the team going through a track championship on a 5/8ths mile dirt track (LMS) then went to Limited late Model NASCAR on asphalt. Took a season to get comfortable on the pavement. Cars is still in the shop, but no racing in close to 10 years now! Crate engines got too expensive!! LOL!!

Hi Nick, as far as I know there is no longer a dirt track in Mount Pleasant but there are several within 50 to 60 miles of here and several people in the area are still into that sport. A friend told me that some tracks have instituted rules to try and control cost of engines.

I was discharged from the Army in Feburary of 1966. As soon as I got home, I teamed up with a group of friends from my high school days and we pooled our money and built a 1957 Pontiac for the stock class. We raced as a team that one year and then I ventured out on my own. I never tried the "big time" but I raced for about ten years locally and then sold everything in 1976. My kids' time with their Dad was more important than the time required to campaign a race car.. That's about the time I started flying model airplanes again.

Welcome, Wayne
It is a joy to fly these things at any level. I fly mostly sport stunt but I have a couple of 1/2A's. I am building a Perky racer (from the 1940's) and just got a kit for a .020 powered bi-plane.
Most of us are happy to talk with anyone who shows an interest. You are luck to be about half way between Dallas and Texarkana (more or less!!!). There are lots of control line fliers in both towns. Don't be shy. As Doc Said above, walk up and introduce yourself and ask questions. If I can't talk at the moment, I will when I am free.
regards,
bill marvel
