Title: Hellcat #152 with Polyhedral
Post by: Pat Johnston on August 31, 2011, 07:11:13 AM
Hellcat design #151 was set up with a small amount of dihedral.  Ol' WW thought it would be better looking if the dihedral breaks which happen on the scale model would be used.  These are about a bay outside of the landing gear.  This evolved into design #152 which has a flat center section and polyhedral breaks at rib #5.  The wing sheet (#2) shows a frontal view so the spars can be set up before framing the wing.  The wing is build in halves and the ribs have the jig holes set so the wing will have the appropriate polyhedral break at rib #5 location.  The fuselage sheet (#1) did not need to change in any way.  Both halves of the wing are attached together so the bottom of the center section is flat.  This accentuates the polyhedral breaks a little bit.  Give it a gander.  PDF files attached.

That really looks cool Pat.  I will say it again.  I love your designs.

This stunter, sort of a 1930's British lightplane, has the dihedral break at the landing gear location.  The center section is flat.

Another design with scale dihedral break - Don Hutch's "Dauntless". Not so hard to do.  8)
