I have 4 kits
« on: August 24, 2009, 09:49:10 AM »
I have 4 kits I would like an idea what they are worth? A customer of mine sold me a bunch of kits for the give aways. Among those are 4 I would like to sell on the bay to recoup the money spent on these 10 kits. So we have 6 free kits in the end.

Green box Nobler
Gieseke Nobler
Top flight Flight streak
and a J.Roberts Corsair AU-1 Looks to be from 1958

All kits are in great shape. Give me some idea please.

Are they Pristine? Or "Builder Kits"? Complete?

Ebay has been "giving away" some great bargains this past year and I would definitely call it a buyer's market right now.. the "good stuff" which you have, has been holding it's own... the bargain hunters are hard core and will pounce on a "buy it now" item that is priced low... I have... Imperial Ringmaster for $65.. MINT.

All anyone can give you is ball park prices... When I price stuff for Estates, I ask myself a couple of questions.. what is a fair price and what price will sell it right away... condition is important.

Green box Nobler... 75-100.. and a little more possibly ($100) is the "magic number"..
Gieseke Nobler... 75-100... and regularly to $125
Top flight Flight streak... $60-75... and higher at times
J.Roberts Corsair AU-1 Looks to be from 1958... this one is a little harder to price because condition means more because of it's collectiblity over some one's desire to build it.. and this is would be a cross over collectible within the model airplane category... possibly.. $50-100, maybe a hair more. .. Carrier isn't as popular as it could be.. but there are some guys out there that buy this stuff...

You could list it on the Bay at $9.99 and let the market determine value.. or use a reserve price.. if you put too high of a reserve on the item.. you may not get any bids..

Some kits are getting "silly"... I sold a Ringmaster 1970s S-1 this past year for $135... I would rather buy that much wood then pay that for a kit... and the guy that bought it, built it..

Maybe a better question is this... How much do you need to recoup?... and set your reserve prices at that level..

The other thing .... just because you offer an item to another modeler.. and cut him a great deal... don't get POed when the item gets sold on eBay for twice as much money as that guy paid... I learned that the hard way when I sold a Bud Nosen kit for $20 to help to a "club member"..out... only having him turn it to make a fast buck.. he never had any intention of building it... dishonesty can tear apart good clubs.. being fair from the start works for everyone. I would rather give a plane/kit away than to feel I was taken advantage of..

Say.. If you want $60-75 for the Flight Steak kit... ask for it... if you can feel happy selling it for $35.. then do it..

Don't look back.. there is always more....

Here are the pics, I think I am going to follow your advice and let the bay set the price.

The Corsair Kit is getting pretty hard to come by... it is cool...

The rest of the kits look great..

Bob, you can do a ten day auction .. and if you list them on Thursday.. you get 2 weekends for people to view your items.. Many of the top regular model airplane sellers list their items Sunday evening... for 7 day auctions..

I wouldn't hesitate to put a $50 reserve on any of these kits.. they are all going to sell at a $9.99 starting bid..

Lately many items don't get close to the end price until the last hour.. rest assured there is a great crowd of bidders on model airplane stuff out there... some collectibles/categories have really taken a dive during this recession.. art has been the big looser.. ceramics ( my mom collects dolls and Toby mugs) ... My gal says .."He knows more about dolls than any guy I have ever known."  8) 8)... my mom and I have "invested" once to twice a week looking at dolls for the past 4 years.. she is 80... and it has been one of the highlights of my daily life to spend this time with her.. collections are a great way to take an interest in another persons life.. my own quote..."Collecting isn't about things, it's about people." At lest that is what I have have experienced..

I suspect you will get between $300 -400 for these 4 kits... maybe a little more..

Shipping.. it costs about $15.00 to send a large kit by parcel post.. That is what Sig charges for a Chipmonk Kit. The Flite Steak may ship for about $12.
