Title: Heavy balsa

This is a serious question but all humorous answers are welcome.

There is a sheet of excellent-looking 1/16" quarter sawn sheet in my Tower Fun 51 kit. Problem is that the density is about 24 lb/cu ft.  HB~>

How can I use it?

And kindling is not an option as we don't have a fire place and there are fire bans on open fires outdoors already.

Use it for doublers on a profile instead of lite ply. Use alluminum pads for the mm's. Use it for LG spats too.Use it for tip weight box construction and wingtips. Lots of uses. Send it over here!  LL~

Tail surfaces on little planes . . . In place of 1/8" sheet, 'cause it's probably stronger than 6-lb 1/8" . . .

Spar caps and vertical bracing are the first thing that comes to mind.

Give it to an RC enthusiast friend.  Years ago I had some very heavy blocks (18 lb up) and my good friend had one of those smooth diamond cut table saws. He ripped it into some very attractive 1/4" thick sheets, which were snapped up like good cookies at our club's annual auction by the RC guys.

They got a good deal, I got a good deal. They didn't need or really want the lighter balsa.

That heavy grade of balsa is what Hollywood should be making their exploding models with, rather than the
lighter stuff..

I guess that is where I am wrong in that I use the heavier wood in my racing planes.  Seem to take less finish.  DOC Holliday
