Title: Having Problems displaying posts and different forums
Post by: Andrew Tinsley on October 22, 2011, 01:34:16 PM
Hi Folks,
I can log into Stunthanger and display the lists of different forums. Click on any forum and I get a blank page with the normal Stunthanger header. The forum will appear in anywhere beyween a minute or hours! Once the individual forum appears, then it takes the same sort of time spans to display an individual topic! What is going on?
No problems with the Barton Forum or with Stuka Stunt.................really has me puzzled!

Andrew.

I would hazard a guess that it's your software security program...eg. cookies not allowing pages to load. I'm not much of a computer geek...I'm sure others will know the cure.

Wish I had the answer. Might have to do with you ISP. Do you have a fast link speed?
Maybe try on a friends computer or you local library.
It might have something to do with banners that might need flash or java to run the banners? If no one else has this problem then I would start at your PC.

Thanks Guys,
Maybe it is my security programme playing up. I have excellent line speed. I get the home page of Stunthanger displayed instantly when I select it from my list of favourite programmes. It is when I try to look at a particular sub forum, e.g. Engine problems, 1/2A Building or 4 strokes that the problem starts. Everything you try to call up from there on in is massively delayed.
It only occurs with Stunthanger, other forums with similar layouts, work at once. I will look at the cookie situation and report back if I find a problem.

Regards,

Andrew.

Hey Andrew i you can disable your security software just to test to see if that may be your problem.

Its more likely an incompatible browser, what browser version are you using?

Try downlaoding firefox and you might be pleasantly surpised.

Hello everyone,
I experimented with allowing all cookies and no improvement. The browser I am using is the same one that I have been using for years, the problems started 2 weeks ago, so I can't see how I can blame the browser? It is just Stunthanger that gives these weird problems on my laptop. Hopefully it will go away as quickly as it appeared!

Thanks,

Andrew.

Andrew
Sometimes you can update one application and it will replace files used by other programs.
Firefox is free. I suggest to download just for the fun of it to see if it helps. It has to be something on your PC.

Andrew ,

If you decide to try Firefox , DON'T set it as your default browser(just a thought) .

Without altering a thing, things are improving! not back to what it was, but getting close!

Thanks,

Andrew.

Why not? You can change back and forth in minutes. If you start IE and it sees that it's not your default, it'll ask you if you want IE as the default. Same applies to Firefox, and I assume all other browsers.

Your problem may have fixed itself if your Windows was set to auto-update itself.. (Windows and all its components perpetually have some new "security" fix for obscure problems.)

Andrew, have you tried clearing out your temporary files? My 'puter guy makes me run C'Cleaner every time I shut the dog down.  It's a free download. http://www.piriform.com/CCLEANER (http://www.piriform.com/CCLEANER)

Then, every week, I'm supposed to run SuperAntiSpyware  http://www.superantispyware.com/ (http://www.superantispyware.com/)

Both these steps help.

The problem I'm having (currently!) is that the darned cursor (not me, the other'n) just locks up for no apparent reason.  DK^ Steve

Actually Steve...I've been having the same problem (cursor locking up)....I consulted the head geek at my workplace and he said it was "normal" if you have IE 8 (has something to do with auto updates/security issues)...it will "go away" by itself as computer learns the new info. ( My PC hasn't locked up now for weeks). I do run C'Cleaner
each time I close my browser also.
