I expect this is the best new engine in years. Should bring a lot of those old .35 designs back out. May have to stash a couple.

A real beauty! It bears a strong resemblance to the old 5224 .35 BB. Does it come with multiple venturis and a high compression head? Is it an ABC?

It is. Just an updated reissue.
I'm sure a old bushed nose section would interchange also.

Maybe right now, Ken Enya's reading this and thinking, "Bloody hell, we forgot to put any cooling fins on the head of the new .35. Or on the 61CXL. Or on that .45 that people liked so much back in the 60s. How could we be so stupid?"

Not surprised. I had an early 5224 - sold it when I thought I'd have to give up flying - been cursing myself ever since. It wasn't even fully run-in yet (sob).

These people need to learn how to make a lightweight muffler. Other than having to buy some after market muffler, the engine looks nice.

Avaiojet super nice motor but, I tend to like a little more cubic inches.

I understand that.

I would like to progress to something larger than what I'm currently at, which is 46 size and 35 size models.

The future.

A Barnstomer would be nice for that motor, the engine is exposed in that design, so is the All American.

I'll bet those are actually JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) screws. If used with the correct JIS driver they are much less likely to strip than Phillips head screws and, IMHO, almost as trouble free as socket head cap screws. Just my $.02-

You are correct about the JIS screws! If people refuse to use the correct tool for the job and then blame the screw head, there is nothing I can say or do to help them!

I learned this "secret" many years ago when working on Japanese cars.

They are JIS screws, not Philips. Philips head screws were designed to let the screwdriver cam out to limit the torque on the screw.

Some the the drivers for drywall screws are a good fit for JIS. In a pinch you can also grind off the pointed head on a Philips screw driver until it seats better in the JIS screw. Not perfect, but much less likely to twist out of the screw head.

If it's just Ken and the "boys", they may not have to have a big a run as expected. For sure, their payroll overhead is low. I am also sure that their equipment must have been amortized decades ago. If they are producing motors like this then, their R&D expenditure can't be too high.

That said, they need to listen to Bob Brooks and produce a contest CL 60 side exhaust.

Thanks for the heads up on the JIS screws. May look for some for two of my engines.
