No E-mails here, but I've had the same happen in the past with my mailing list.

I received the scam email also.  It made me wonder if these sort of scams ever work.

Wife and I we talking about this last night, they were talking about an IRS scam on the news. Some people must be falling for it or they wouldn't keep doing it. Hard to believe people are that gullible.

I'm not sure what the particular scam is, but they must work or people wouldn't do them so often.  Remember that you can send out huge numbers of email for very little money, so you don't have to hit a very large proportion of people for it to work out.

Apparently the "I am 2nd cousin of recently deceased dictator so-and-so" scam has been around long before email -- my mom told me once that my dad's business would get those in the mail on a semi-regular basis.  I suspect the "oh help me I need expensive medical procedures" has been around forever, too.

The thing about this email that I had to check was it was to his correct email address. If someone has his phone number they might want to call him and make sure his paypal account is secure.

The Yahoo servers have been broken into before. It is not necessarily Al sent it, as one might think with a compromised PC with root kit or virus. Yahoo has been having increasing problems over the past year, so I'm migrating all my contacts and profiles to other E-mail accounts. I plan to close my Yahoo account.

A few years back Yahoo gained a CEO from what I understand was a Microsoft Corp. exec. I couldn't say specifically, but Microsoft seems to have their share of problems. For example, London Stock Exchange dumping their Microsoft based infrastructure due to performance problems and outages for a combination of Unix and Linux a few years ago.

Regardless of the reasons, I've been experiencing outages with Yahoo worsening over the past year. Today was a prime example, Yahoo Temporary Error #14 and message their staff is working on it. I seriously doubt Al Rabe sent those SPAM messages, although anything is possible.

If you look at the headers, check to see where the message originated. I had someone impersonate me about 3 years ago. E-mail originated from Malaysia. That would help to confirm if in fact Al sent it or not.

Anyway, my two cents FWIW.  D>K

Al,

No apologies necessary.  Many people get their email accounts hijacked.  It has happened to my father several times.  Hope all is going well for you.
