Title: Hardpoint Handle via Eflite
Post by: frank williams on August 17, 2011, 09:48:46 AM
I have modified the Eflite handle for hardpoint operation.  The bolts are 6mm steel from the hardware store.  The overhangers are 0.060 steel silverbrazed into the slotted bolts.

The line carriers certainly seem stout enough. But what carries the load around the gigantic cutouts for the thumbscrews? It appears to about about 1/8" of plywood on either side of them. Is there some of steel core?

Very interesting, I have no doubt that the wood surrounding the adjusters are strong enough judging by the inserts imbedded into the handle where the hard points insert. My question is How do you keep the hard point inserts aligned on the vertical plane with each other other than the locking thumb wheel screw. I would suppose you could torque the independent hardpoints out of alignment, which could cause weird response.

This is very similar to my handle which I made years ago and still use as I carved it to fit my hand. On mine the hard point is a bar that attaches to the top and bottom thumb wheel dajusters via a pivot point top and bottom. (Imagine a Giant Clevis that the threaded portion of the adjuster attaches to)

You're right, the cutouts do compromise the handle somewhat, but I just pull tested it to 50+ pounds.  A Shelly quality pull.  I used the third holes from the end on each leg for the pull.  I have so much trouble gettin' the clips right to set the neutral.  The screw adjust does give you a slight tweek on length without excessive overhang change.

Peter,
The line hangers actually slide back into the handle which had to be slotted to accept them.  This keeps them alligned.
