prop nut/acorn nut
« on: May 07, 2014, 08:59:43 AM »

I am looking for prop/acorn type spinner nuts, they are used as prop nuts in place of the regular nut.

It is 1/4-28 to fit the crank shaft.

Got any idea as to where to find them?  Thanks

If you do a little bit every day it will get done, or you can do it tomorrow.

Try your local Ace Hardware.   Of course you may have to cut part of the shaft off so they will seat right.  Or use thicker washers or several of them.

I bought most of mine from Fox mfg.  At the time they were a dollar or two cheaper than everyone else.  They now have upped the price more than a couple of dollars!

I saw this on another post replied by Shug Emery; is this what you're looking for ? If so you might want to ask him where he got it.  http://stunthanger.com/smf/index.php?topic=34944.msg355158#msg355158

I have many in stock most are 5\16 x 24 and 6mm  but I do have a couple of AL. Acorn nuts that are 1/4 x 28, they are made by  MACs, FOX, Tru Turn etc... also Higley made them

I prefer the OS spinner nuts, usually lighter than the others and better looking.

If your looking for a Acorn nut any Harley shop has a chrome one in the thread size you need. If it's 5/16 24 your looking for the best one is for a late model twin cam Mirror. It's longer and more the right shape.

They are not lighter, and really not any better looking, I have all of them here,   also those are spinner nuts, like tru turn makes, the Tru Turn ones are better looking IMHO, but I think he was asking about Acorn nuts, those normally are the blunter ones with the HEX Flats at the back of the nut.

Woody Bartelt at Woody,s engines should have these for Super Cyclones. They are 1/4-28 and are long enough to fit most prop shaft lengths I would think lthough some engines have longer shafts and you might have to use a spacer or two.
