Change Part 2, Thank You All
« on: July 04, 2010, 07:03:54 AM »
All, I was tired of scrolling to the bottom,

I thank everyone for their point of view, and I would have to say that after much reading, my opinion may have changed about what is needed and what is not. I agree that this topic has been a good POSITIVE discussion point and one that may have been brought up before, but since I have not been doing this all that long, I have not had the privilege of reading it.

I guess where I was going was trying to promote a segment of the hobby that I love so much. You have to understand, I am a marketing person by profession and I love.... if not feel compelled... to try and attract new interest.

Part of my rational is that I fly at a primarily RC club field, and I have to say our club is very open to all modeling activities. What i get tired of hearing is why to you like doing something that has not changed or kept up with the technology. This is what got me thinking about our great hobby and many of the innovations I have seen over the last 30 years.

THIS is what got me started on this post...................NOW WITH THAT SAID................................................................

I think I better understand and can appreciate what I was missing in my whole thought process, and I have to admit what may have drawn me back to CL to begin with....who knows.

Either way I would like to thank everyone for making CL what it is today, the people that do this are the best and I am having a ball, I was just thinking of ways to attract more people to such a great thing.

Thanks
Tim Stagg

Well to say that C/L is not keeping up with technology is not true.
Look at all the guys that are flying with brand new 4 strokes. And what about those guys that have gone all electric?
Big Art's Stunt team... Dennis, Archie. Mike Palko, Wynn Robins and the list goes on and on.
These guys use all the latest paints and building jigs. Clancy Arnold has made big strides in putting electronics in scale planes.
And some guys have even strapped on small video cameras on our planes to shoot video.

So ask your R/C guys where we are missing the technology?

And maybe one reason we fly C/L is it reminds us of our youth. The planes have not changed much but everything as far as building and flying has. y1

Tim,

You are a trend setter as your Tsunami is a testament to.  I like flying CLPA for the tradition of the hobby.  I still like persimmon woods for golf too.  I like technology and use it daily in my work.  Our hobby allows me to slow down and enjoy some times of the past, even with a growling PA on a pipe.  At Brodaks I discovered OTS and have been searching my plans for a new plane.  I am for changes or advances, but I still enjoy the old way too much to take the next step forward.

And hanging cardboard airplanes on the prop, flying nowhere(?), is technological advancement? Heck, we did that in 1956 with real model airplanes powered with McCoy .60's!

Jim Walker even sooner...see Sabre Dance!
