Gee. I've yet to fly on an Airbus.  Probably won't, because I've decided to get into an airliner only in an emergency.  Have flown in most other types, however.  In my opinion, the quietist and smoothest ride happened to be in a Lockheed 1011, "Tri-Star".  Too bad these have been phased-out of service.

Ted,

I read the interim report the French agency did.  It appears that both cockpit flight directors went out.  With the directors and airspeed indicators not working you can only try keeping the wings level with a needle if they had one!
Sooo, that's a huge recipe for disaster!

With the number of planes in the air at any one time, to me it is suprising we haven't heard of more crashes or emergencies.  Nobody complains about the autos we put so much trust in as I just found out that my 96 Ford was supposed to have caught fire years ago because I didn't know about a recall that was done on them.  The new Uplander we have has already been in for an update that came to light to the men in charge.  Some of the newer vehicles that pass by me make me think about the Pinto's that caught fire in rear end crashes because of the fuel tank location.  To think more people killed every day than in one airplane crash.  The landing in the river would not have left a good feeling in me either.
