Hanger 9 Mini Tachometer Modification...AWESOME!
« on: October 04, 2016, 08:10:04 PM »
A BIG thanks to Brett Buck for a post or two about tachometer modifications that help the TNC and Fromeco tachometers work better! I finally got off the dime and made a "shade" for the lens on my Hanger 9 tacho, and it is nothing short of miraculous!

Brett has written about rolling a paper/glue tube and flat black paint inside...but I found a short scrap of some sort of black plastic bar next to my lathe the other day, and leaped into action. I thought it was Delrin, but some machining indicated that it was "other"...not sure. Anyway, I left it pretty much the length it was, and came out 1.45" long, 25/64" drilled hole through. There was nothing fancy about this, and the plastic got hot enough that I figured it would be a shrink fit, which it did...a nice push fit while hot.

I got to try this out at this weekend's Ring-a-Thon, and the steadiness of the digital readout was solid as a rock. Highly recommended! This is a totally awesome little tachometer now, and I thought it was above average stock. Just do it! See the picture!  LL~ Steve

If you really want to optimize it, find a lens that focuses exactly on the detector and add that to the tube. Good out to a remarkable distance!

Now why doesn't someone make a lazer beam tach? Don't need no stinkin' sunlight, and would work under fluorescent lighting, too.
Think S.M.A.L.L. y'all and, it's all good, CL, FF and RC!
