Gulp!
« on: June 23, 2011, 05:24:00 PM »
This is something that I just stumbled across while sitting here in my motel room in anticipation of the Sig Contest this weekend. Apparently this is Jim Aron's current (stunt?) project. This is an idea I've kicked around countless times. Jim is doing a phenomenal job with this. I am really jealous, I want one. y1

I'm thinkin' that the wires are for (1) central glow ignitor system (hole on side of nose) and/or (2) servo throttle control via signals down the wires. I'll be disappointed if Jim doesn't enter it in Profile Stunt at next year's NW CL Regionals LL~, but it might be intended for the Tucson 1/2A multi-engine profile scale contest. Steve

Two small IC engines mounted to the wings by the looks of it. All those wires are a mystery. Maybe for timy dummy electric motors just to spin some props for effect?

IC, certainly.  Electric would be wimping out.

Of course not.  Anything less than six engines would be wimping out.

I had assumed it was six of the Norvels.

I could not agree more, like Howard implies above, if it's going to be done one needs to be a MAN and use IC engines on a project like this. It's just way more impressive that way, any WIMP could wire it up and flip a switch. I also am assumed at first it was for the Tucson 1/2A Scale contest, but that airfoil looks like a stunter to me. Either way it's Way Cool Jim!!! y1

Surely you would start with something less complex like a 4 engine stunt version :P - But i guess thats wimping out also  LL~

Hats off to you Jim :) Good luck.

Bottle Rockets would work (less the "pop" at the end, of course)

Can't believe some of you guys didn't recognize this as a B-36. ...and it's going to sound like 36 Bees too!!

The opening scene to "Strategic Air Command" is worth the rental just for the sound bite of the 6 Radials and 4 jets as it blasts over Jimmy Stewarts head.

Uncle Jimby:

Is this for what I think it is?  (October?)  If so, we're gonna' need mucho advance publicity so as to attract a suitable crowd.

I'm starting to get used to the idea of 6 engines. What I'm wondering about now is this: can Jimby keep the color count down to 10 or less, and avoid using purple.  ??? Steve

Some black ID, and Da-Glo Orange panels on the wingtips and top of the fin would be fine, Jim. Let loose, get wild with it!  ;) Steve
