The Badge
« on: August 10, 2020, 11:05:05 AM »
The Badge is a commentary by Kurt Russell I got on a face book message.  I tried to post it here and kept getting rejected.  So if you want to see what it says you will have to go to the supporters room unless the administrator would like to move it to here. D>K

Retired Sergeants Association of the New York City Police Department
July 9 ·
Kurt Russell, He speaks From his heart and finds eloquent words to express what a lot people are thinking...

Kurt Russell
Yes... let’s all join in the hatred of all police for the sins of a few. Let’s defund one of the most important public institutions in our countries history. Let’s have all badges removed and allow people to tend to their own safety and security.

But before you do so, Let me tell you about the badge and the thousands of good men and women it represents.

The Badge
This badge ran towards certain death as the Towers collapsed on 9-11.

This badge ran into the line of fire to save the people in the Pulse Night Club.

This badge sheltered thousands as bullets rained down from the Mandalay Hotel in Las Vegas.

This badge protected a BLM rally that left five officers dead in Dallas.

This badge ran into the Sandy Hook School to stop a school shooter.

This badge killed the Oregon District mass shooter in seconds.
This badge has done CPR on your drowned child.

This badge has fist fought the wife beater who left his spouse in a coma.

This badge has run into burning buildings to save the occupants.
This badge has been shot for simply existing.
This badge has waded through flood waters to rescue the elderly trapped on the roof.

This badge has intentionally crashed into the wrong way driver to protect innocent motorists.

This badge has helped find the lost child so his mother would stop crying hysterically.
This badge has helped the injured dog off the road and rushed it to the vet.

This badge has escorted the elderly woman across the street because she couldn't see well and was afraid to cross.

This badge has bought food for hungry kids because they had been abandoned.
This badge has been soaked in blood and tears.

This badge has been covered by a mourning band to honor those who have sacrificed everything in service.
You may hate me because I wear it. But, I wear it with pride. Despite your hate and your anger, I will await the next call for help. And, I will come running without hesitation. Just like the thousands of men and women across this great nation.
This badge. ~Unknown

Wow...

If you can read that without being moved and getting a little something in your eye, you're not paying attention or you just don't care about anything but violence, like some of the current rioters!

May God protect our important Police Officers!

That badge is goin' bye bye if the dems get their way (hope not).
I know you will probably get mad with me for saying this but I hope not .... "Why does, seemingly, everything have to have a label of Dem or Rep?  Why can't your comment stand on it's own?  While the premise may be weak and flawed, "that the badge is going bye bye" (at least I hope so) not everything is political or based on political positions.  There are serious underlying reasons and differences of opinions in our society that must be resolved not just allowed to fester in the public forum.

Heck, I'm a registered democrat who holds to many of the same ideas as many registered republicans based upon my life experiences such as having spent two years as a cop in Baltimore City, quit, then ultimately retired from the military, now living off my social security, building my model airplanes and playing pinochle whenever we can get a foursome.  No, I don't want to see the police totally defunded but at the same time I don't want to see, live or have my grandchildren or yours exposed the continual abuses by the "bad ones".  I believe in unions and unionization but I stand against any union that protects unjustified and or bad behavior.  Just as I hate the legal principle that prevents a lawyer from revealing that his or her client is guilty, if that comes out in the investigation.  There has to be a way to reroute some of the municipal budgets to provide alternative "social" services for any number of calls to the police especially when the behaviors don't reach the level criminal behavior.  Maybe it could and should be used to train, hire and grant arrest power to select social workers, medical personnel, psychiatrists, ectcetera who could be dispatched to certain calls with police serving as backup if situations exceeds certain guidelines.  Isn't this what nearly all of us, as men of good conscience, understand and believe?  I mean, as modelers we come together with common rules on how to hold events, rules for flying, taking turns in the circle, what fuel to use, what lines to use even who can and cannot participate in events ... i.e. AMA Members or open fly don't we??

Let's come together on that accord ... seek the common ground ... develop agreeable solutions, promote those solutions and build this into a society where you and yours and me and mine can come together and live in peace, harmony and as Christ would have us live.  Not as dems and repubs, even He, Christ, rejected the "political" groupings ... Pharisees, Sadducees and Herodians ... but as HIS flock, HIS friends!!  I hope this makes sense!

You can't possibly be a registered anything in today's political environment and make sense as you just did.

R%%%% It is the "all or nothing" attitude of both parties that is preventing any progress.  Our system was intentionally designed to require compromise to get anything done.  At the core was a belief that we were a capitalistic republic.  Liberal and conservative values complemented each other.  It was when one or the other started encroaching on the other's turf that conflict began.
You cannot have a compassionate society with liberal values without the conservative capitalist camp there to fund it.  Take away either and the country collapses.  The forces controlling our narrative right now are trying to tale away both. We have to stop dismissing every idea that is presented by the other side simply because it came from the other side.  "Bringing us together" is simply code for "you give up your views and do it my way".  Look at the current impass over helping the people displaced by this Covid insanity.  Republicans want 1T, Democrats want 3T and nobody is willing to accept 2T.  So hundreds of millions go broke while fully paid politicians play "My way or the Highway" then go home because they didn't get their way. R%%%%

Sorry, just ran out of soap...Ken
