70's Profile biplane
« on: October 06, 2006, 10:37:43 PM »
:)In 1972 or 3 A friend had a pair of profile biplanes that he and his son flew combat with. One of them was a sopwith camel. Does any one know who made these kits?
Just trying to refresh the memory!
Thanks, Terry

They were a Fokker D-7 and  Spad. The designs were originally published in the Sig Air Modeler magazine they put out for seven issues, then they were kitted. I had the Spad way back when, and my brother the Fokker. I don't remember how well they flew, but I could do basic loops and inverted with them at  least. I'll have to build another of each for giggles and grins some day.

Those Sig WW I Biplanes did fly pretty well if you flew them fast.  Really, really thin wings.  I gave mine to a friend when he got back into the hobby.  I used an OS MaxIII 35.

If you build the Fokker....   Try a VERY careful inverted landing on a smoooth field..   ;D  The wing is far enough above the prop to allow it to slide on the top wing and take off again...   ;D
The first time was 'accidental' then did it several more times on purpose..   Double or triple covered with film on the center section helps   ;D ;D

<= Hi guys, I am pretty far on this Fokker plane now. I made the struts and worked with the top wing incidence tonite. This has been a real fun plane to build and Very inexpensive. I may have $15. in wood. I think you could build one of these in a weekend. It is not as big as I remember but I was 10 or 11 then so they looked BIG!
a Fox 35 seems like it's gonna be a lot. What size Tank should I use on this thing? I should start covering Tuesday Nite. Hope to have pictures soon.  I am new to StuntHanger but this is a Great site for C/L and I'm glad to see CL alive and well!
Thanks, Terry
