Below is 2018 NAT's CLASSIC/Nostalgia-30 (N-30) and Old Time Stunt (OTS) pre-registration/registration and schedule information.

2018 NAT’s CLASSIC/N-30/OLD TIME STUNT CHAMPIONSHIPS
Tuesday – July 10th, 2018 – Muncie, Indiana

INFORMATION:

•   Pilots Meeting:  8:15 AM/Competition:  8:3O AM – Tuesday, July 10TH
•   Location: GRASS CONTROL LINE AEROBATIC CIRCLES– AMA Control Line Complex – If rainy weather gets fields water-logged then we will use circles 1 and 2 on the L-PAD with same contest format as was planned for the grass circles.   
•   AMA LICENSE REQUIRED
•   Judges – 2 judges on each of the two grass circles
•   Competitors will fly 2 rounds – following completion of first round within their event competitors will change circles – BOTH ROUNDS WILL BE COUNTED in all events.
•   N-30 (Nostalgia 30) will be flown concurrently with Classic in the flight order – it will be scored and awarded separately from Classic – COMPETITOR CANNOT COMPETE IN BOTH CLASSIC AND N-30 EVENTS must choose one event between the two.
•   Competitors may enter OTS and either CLASSIC or N-30 (2 events total)
•   Placement Awards: 1st to 5th Place
•   Special Awards
o   Spirit Of ‘52
o   Spirit Of ‘64
o   Pilot’s Choice Best OTS Aircraft
o   Pilot’s Choice Best Classic Aircraft
o   Pilot’s Choice Best N-30 Aircraft

•   We will be utilizing two (2) grass circles for all events- these are the same circles utilized for CLASSIC-OTS events in the past except we have added N-30. The third grass circle (nearest C/L combat area) may be used for practice.
•   We plan on having about 7-1/2’ dia.  non-slip hard surface (not concrete or asphalt) circle centers on the two competition circles.
•   Unlike in times past, we have changed the format for 2018 in that we will fly the CLASSIC/N-30 event to completion (2 RDS.) on Tues., July 10th,  starting at 8:30 AM.  Following a short lunch break the OTS (OLD TIME STUNT) event will start. Competitors will switch circles following their first-round flights. Plans are to give out the placement awards following each event.
•   OLD TIME STUNT (OTS) ERA – To Dec. 31, 1952   
•   CLASSIC ERA – Jan. 1, 1953 – Dec. 31, 1969
•   NOSTALGIA – 30 ERA (N-30) – 30 yrs. back from this current year cut-off (Dec. 31, 1988)

•   Competitors must enter events using first the 2018 AMA NATs Unofficial Entry Form (See http://nats.modelaircraft.org/nats-forms/)  (IF NOT REGISTERED IN AMA OFFICIAL EVENT).  You can preregister now with AMA- Send form along with $10.00 unofficial entry fee, or preregister at AMA headquarters front desk when arriving.

•   THE EVENT FEE TO ENTER IN CLASSIC/N-30 and OTS IS $15.00 WHETHER YOU ENTER ONE OR TWO EVENTS (PAYABLE TO THE CONTEST DIRECTOR OR HIS ASSISTANT WHEN YOU SIGN UP ON-SITE).

EVENT PREREGISTRATION ON-SITE:
Competitors may preregister for the events on-site from July 8th, until 8:00 AM (morning of event, July 10th). A registration table will be set up in the 180 BLDG. during appearance judging on Mon. July 9th, for event preregistration.  Also, you may let me know from now until just before leaving for the Nat’s, the events you wish to enter. Contact me via email, Stunt Hanger forum, or phone. It will be very helpful to get all competitors registered prior to Monday evening so that score sheets and flight orders can be established, so our dedicated ladies at the contest table won’t be overwhelmed, and competition can start promptly at 8:30 AM.
•   We would like to get individual pics of each pilot with their aircraft to put in “STUNT NEWS”. So, if we happen to miss getting your picture let us know since we don’t want to miss anyone. 
       I want to thank all the volunteers, Darrell Harvin, and Dave Trible for their great help! This year we hope the new format will be less hectic and confusing since there won’t be any crossing back and forth from flying modern pattern to OTS pattern for those flying two events.

Just a note that there is NO speed events or Racing events going on the week of the stunt events so you have those pavement circles to use if wanted.

Might want to check and see when they plan on putting up the nets on those circles it would be nice that they were in installed until after the stunt week is done.

      Thanks Richard. I knew that they did not coincide this year, but admit, I did not think about the possibility of their use. I would have to get more info. relating to circle size, walk around clearance area for judges/score runners, and pit area. Then there are a few other things besides the  fore mentioned   to consider about having a stunt event in a confined area.

Just go to Google maps and look at the racing site just behind the l pad.
There is about 50 ft. or so between the two circles almost as much as the 3 4 circles on the l pad has. I know it gets a lot of use for stunt practice in the evening during the nats, I use it  rather than the grass.

      Richard, I've looked at overhead views of the racing circles and using the map scale it appears there is not enough safe perimeter clearance for judges/score runners. One thing that I've scene at Muncie especially on the asphalt is the sometime fierce thermals and phantom gusts that has the fliers scrambling like crazy around the circle centers (sometimes off the established center) to save their planes. This condition could possibly put judges and score runners in a vulnerable position. I believe it is a little too confining, but it was a good idea though.
       We are going to make every effort to get the grass cut short enough for the A/C with wing landing gear to make decent take-offs, even if I have to weed-eat a path. Yea! I'll have my  "BINFORD XL9999"  grass destroyer ready to go if need be! 
       Of course, if the grass fields are water logged, then as the NAT's flier states we'll be on circles 1 and 2 of the L-PAD. Looking forward to seeing you there Richard.

Sounds good, you might see if you can get the AMA to pave the centers of the grass circles to make them SAFE ! as if it gets wet you can not stand in the DEEP hole that are the centers of those circles.
I think Dennis was talking the the AMA to get that done, after all they paved the combat circles why not the grass circle. Use the safety aspect of the small cost of having it done the grounds crew can do the digging and forming and just a cement truck and a few yards of mix and the wet problem is fixed. A few years ago when we had the big swamp out there is was impossible to stand any where close to the center. Even now it's like standing in a HOLE and a big bump in the middle with those plow discs sticking up.

            You are right about the grass centers. Dennis has talked to AMA about getting concrete centers installed on the grass centers and a couple other individuals, including myself  have communicated with certain people on the AMA staff with the same concern and request. Since Dennis is out of the loop now as E.D. it will fall to us to continue to press the AMA to get this done. Darrell Harvin is aware of the need and is also working to that end to get the hardened centers, but it probably won't happen this year. We will be talking to someone in person at AMA in July to get something for done for 2019.
            I will be bringing a pair of portable circle centers with me for 2018. They will be 3/4" plywood tongue & groove panels ~ 7-1/2' dia. w/ non- skid surface. We will anchor them with landscape timber nails and shore up any soft spots with sand if needed. We will have them in place for the Intermediate and Beginner contests on Sunday,  July 8, if the CD's for those events want to use them.             
            I'm pretty sure we should have permanent centers next year.
