« on: April 24, 2013, 06:09:48 PM »
I have the new plane taped and primed but can't decide on the color it needs to be. White,Yellow, blue? I need help quick.

Stay tuned I painted it white. If it loks ok OK if not I can repaint it any color I want.

Here it is. I think I will just leave it at that. All thats left is ink and clear.

Is this about a new plane or nose art for this one?

I needed to know the color for this swoop. The pictures don't do this plane justice. I am tickled with the results of this 1 month airplane. I have 6 days left to finish in under 30 days. I am thinking tomorrow the ink and after flying this weekend (weather permitting) the clear. I am using a dope finish and not urethane for several reasons. Number one is weight and the second reason is repairability.

I like the white just as it is if you'd also trim it in black. Not just an outline, give the black some width and taper too.

Or.....add black checkers in it somehow?

How about a Harley-Davidson logo between the tails of the scallops?  H^^ Steve

Edit: Maybe, on second thought, that Mercury ghosty ghoulish logo would be kewl...or just the "M" ?

Robert,

I gotta tell ya.

I sit back and look at the two models you just applied a paint scheme on, and I cannot figure it out?   H^^

How someone can end up with results like, what's on those models, yet have absolutely no thought out "pre-existing" game plan.
Happenstance as you go. HAYG.  ???

I can't speak for others, but there's no way I could work like that. Never could.  HB~>

I need small sketches, line art, complete drawings, and changes. Placement of color and re-arangement of color. Changes after changes, on paper, just to be sure. JTBS. Just to get it right. JTGIR.  :!

I cannot, as you have done, TWICE IN FACT!, just make up the placement of color/design in areas as I "go along."   n~

Robert. Please, I won't tell anyone, I promise. Did you draw any of this out?

Even a tiny game plan, possibly a quick sketch, a simple line or two? Maybe a photo for guidence?

Rocky and Bullwinkle, two titles, "Are we being conned?" or "How do you get away with this?"  LL~ LL~

Outstanding!

I do not plan ahead. I just look at the model and envision what I want to see. Tape it off and paint it. It's all a SWAG (scientific wild a$$ guess) Just as I barnyard engineer as I go. No paper drawings on computer engineering programs just eyeball. I could not tell you how many models I have built in my life but its way up there.

Those white scallops look really good!

You did some really killer scallops on the Continental, I think, red ones over blue ones.

If you wanted to add more, some yellow around the nose would work.  Maybe overlapping ones there as well. The added yellow in the front could add some balance across the fuse. But what you have is pretty awesome!!

Good SHOW!!!  Looks great!!!

Thanks Doug but I am done painting except clear and the gear doors. I am just going to ink it out and finish it up. I need to get it in the air. I hope to fly this at the NATS if it works as planed.

I think I just saw where you said you buy your dope from Wicks.  That would say to me this is a dope finish.   ;D ;D

Will you use Dope clear as well or go over it with Urethane?

Nice to see you add some white to that nose...which just visually might help both U and the judges to see that model more clearly in flight. As you know Red is one of the colors of the spectrum that has some pretty unusual effects on the human's eye when in motion...(especially in late eve. or dim light conditions...White will allow you to see the model in flight against all kinds of lighting and background situations..
GREAT COLOR CHOICE AN SCHEME! TRULY ANOTHER WORK OF CLPA ART..BOB! CONGRATS~!I AGREE...IT MORE THAN JUST READY TO GO FOR THE CLEAR COAT!

I think this would work really well between the scallops! It would look good with the 'grey' ball changed to Cub Yellow or "Boss 302 Yellow".  H^^ Steve

I think the plane white was just enough and when I paint the spinner to match that should finish the look off.

Look it matches my stool cushion.

Believe it or not that was not planed. I just noticed it in this picture.

I noticed that after I posted. It would look better with a yellow circle, I think. It would have been cool to put the "M" on the nose and the ghostly Mercury figure on the fin, but you don't wanna show excessive favoritism toward one sponsor, either. Maybe a nice "Hubin Timers" sticker?  H^^ Steve

I tried the sticker and I have tried decals. I think I will just stick to paint. So the decal was removed. When I sprayed clear over it it curled up. So its gone and I will never try that again. This photo saved me. I just noticed the black check on the wing tip is light. I will touch it up now.

Exactly my thoughts! y1 You can shadow the white with yellow, and shadow the yellow with thin black lines. That would balance it off right. H^^

The plan of attack for my new plane is,tonight I will glue hinges and bench trim the plane. Tomorrow weather permitting I will try to get it in the air. My thinking it is close enough to start flying as even if I need to add paint I can do so because of no oil. That's the plan but no clue how it goes yet.
