Title: Great plans site
Post by: Dennis Toth on November 24, 2017, 12:23:40 PM
Was doing a search for plans for the Sterling Yak 9 profile (which I didn't find) and came across this site that has hundreds of PDF plans. Great place to brows for old ships https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?1288656-Control-Line-Plans

Enjoy,    DennisT

Lots of plans from various rcgroups threads can also be found on a number of free plans sites. My favorite is https://outerzone.co.uk/ .

George, I don't think you'll find a Sterling Yak-9 plan. The kit came with a small-scale 2-view on the instruction sheet. I took my plans to a copier several years ago and just had it copied at a magnification that gave it the correct span. If you want to fly OTS with something built from such plans, that should be legal, since it was "published." The only scans I have now were scanned at a low resolution to fit the other Forum, but I'll the jpeg version below, if it would be helpful. I can find my kit plans and scan at higher file size, if that would be useful. I also scanned some kit parts and the rib openings left from the die-cut wood, but these would not necessarily come out at the right size. However, if you look up the span (it's not on the box, but was in ads of the time - 38" or 40", I think), you can scale everything. The problem of magnification is that it also magnifies line widths and irregularities. BUT, you can build reasonably from such magnified images.

It was fun to look through the plans on that site and to see a couple Roy Clough, Jr. designs there. They weren't his most interesting, but they were, as always, imaginative.

Re: Sterling Yak 9 plans. I believe that Pat Johnston has drawn up a set of plans (probably using parts from a kit). He has it listed as plan #144. patsplans@yahoo.com

Brodak has the plan available.

I'd forgotten that Brodak was producing the Yak, and their custom is to provide
plans. I don't know for sure about authenticity, since there has been some discussion of wing sections in other models, but my guess is that these should make for a well-flying model. 'looks as though your problem is solved!

Hey Serge, a little late in my response, but this will do fine.  I have no problem with the line thickness. I just needed the outline and location of elevator relative to the wing, etc-  Thanks George
