Great NW Regionals
« on: May 27, 2007, 11:20:29 PM »
As usual the Northwest Regional was a blast. Some great flyers and really good weather made up for last years Monsoon weather. Everyone flew like it was the middle of the contest season and some of the best flyers in the country were there or should I say the world. A lot of catching up to do and the greeting of old friends.
Watching Paul Walker fly his new electric. David Fitzgerald with his Star Gazer And Mike Pratt of Iowa. A few people didn't show up so they could defend themselves so we had something to talk about.
We all left sunday evening looking forward to seeing each other sometime down the road. I flew good and there were a lot of people who clapped and whistled. so after practicing my bowe on friday I was able to use it on Sunday so am now able to say I did not make a fool of myself after turning expert. What a contest run by first class people. If anyone has Pictures Please post on this Thread.

Leo,

I agree. Just rolled in a hour ago. What a fun time! Thanks for John Thompson, Mike Hazel and all the other Eugene Prop Spinners for putting on a great contest.

And Leo, you flew a nice pattern. We all watched.

Leo,
Sounds like fun was the order of the day.

Did Art and Scott attend the contest and fly?

Richard, Art, Scott and I stayed together. Art has been flying pretty good But Richard said he got all screwed up and did a bunch of stuff wrong. Scott flew good and has been flying well all year. The important thing was we all had a great time an we all got to see some of the people that we only see about once a year.

Bruce,
I am sorry to say I did not, I missed your flights, I was down watching the Ryans race I think when you were flying. I had wanted to but didnt pay close enough attention to the flying order. I like the Jester paint work alot and had wanted to catch it in flight. Perhaps If you make another contest or if I make the BC contest I can try then.

The other guy that was missing was Shultzy. We need to get you into the contest circuit so we have someone to give a bad time to. I know Billy G does but you deserve more. Be sides we need to know how well preserved you are. Anyway we need to to see some of those kool airplanes you build. I know Boing didn't leave you destitute so you can afford it. mw~ mw~ mw~ mw~ HB~>

Leo...
Love those shot of that Grinder of yours...reaallly looks great in the air. I thought you might have flown that great looking Nobler of yours. (Except that the leadouts are on the wrong wing panel? LL~)
Hey Leo and gang.
After looking at those awesome models setting around during the appearence judging....I would be reeeeeeeaaaally hard pressed to even begin to equal any of those beautiful pieces of SKY ART! BEAUTIFUL FINISHES, GREAT COLORS & TASTY TRIM PATTERNS...TOTALLY AWESOME.
My wife and I were not toooooooooooooooooofar away....Lincoln City Oregon, where we spent Friday-Sat. but I had to return to play taps at a memorial at Ft. Lewis with 19 other trumpet players. What an amazing event although really really sad sad sad sad sad day. I was not prepared for so many families with fallen young men and women.
Really puts BUSHES WAR IN PERSPECTIVE...(not a policital statement...just facts!)  I still can't sleep through the night thinking about what I saw and heard.

WOW what a great time I had at the NWR.

I flew into Eugene and literally walked out the front door of the terminal and walked about ¼ mile to the flying site (really) with my bags.  It was great seeing all my old friends and flying in some pretty good air with very comfortable conditions (really kind of cool for me).   Very special thanks for all that had a hand in putting on this contest.  THANK YOU!!!!!

A big thank you goes to Eric Fitzgerald for allowing me to fly his daddy’s airplane and check out the PA 75.  Awesome performance doesn’t come close to describing it.

There were many outstanding flights from the contestants and the judges did an outstanding job for sorting out the final standings.  Not an easy job when you consider the caliber of flyers present.  Personally I didn’t fly as well as I wanted but when you consider a three year layoff, flying a model that I had a total of 7 flights (including two officials), it wasn’t too bad.  Big John Miller let me fly his AAE in classic and what a nice flying model that is.  With a few more flights and a slightly different trim set up I think I could have been a real threat in Classic.  Yea it really is that good of a model!!

As far as the Canadian contingent goes, they are always fun to be around.  What can I say that hasn’t been said before about these guys, “Except they are Nuts”.

On the flight home it dawned on me (I know I’m a little slow at times) just how much I missed being around my friends and what a pleasure it was meeting a bunch of new ones at the NWR.

Later,

Mikey

HI Mikey,

That is the real joy of CLPA now!  Of course it is a good feeling to put in some good flights, but the friendships are really great.  I can't wait to finally meet some of my "internet friends'! y1

Still thinking of all the time and effort you spent helping out my son, Aaron, at his first NATS in '96.  You didn't have to do it, but your heart is in th right place. ;D

Thanks!

Randy,
I hope so because it is a really good model.  I thought that we had it pretty close and I was really bummed when I heard it kiss off the ground.  I think I am hooked on the NWR and will be there again to hassle all of ya <LOL>.  I might even bring my own ship to fly.

Later,
