This week it is as high as 91* and a heat index as high as 101* here. The rain has stopped temporarily, and the sun is out. The garage/workshop I use has no A/C and no roof insulation, which makes for a roasting oven. Looks like I may not get much done this week.

That's all right Garf. It's hotter than that at Muncie and we lost an air conditioner today. We won't be staying for the AMA 75th anniversary. We're going home in the morning. We ran around all afternoon trying to get it fixed today. Couldn't happen.

I think I will move to your neighborhood. Here in Indianapolis today it hit 95* and a heat index of 113*. And to top that my Air Conditioner quit for the third time this summer!!! It is now 10:15 pm and still 90* outside. I have 2 fans running, one pointed at the wife and one pointed at ME. O' did I mention that in August of 2009 I bought a NEW Furnace and Air Conditioner. I can tell you one brand NOT to buy!

Gee, we have 69° and, big shock, rain. Sort of a sunny, rainy, sunny, rainy thing.

But it was nice last weekend - highs in the 70s and not too much wind.

Almost every day for the last week the good ole reliable media has been showing extreme heat indexes. Computor now shows 93 degrees F and flashing. Means another warning. Here I have been out cutting grass and brush. Also running engines in back yard. Best I have felt in several years now. Rather have the heat than the cold. At least if I get too hot I find shade and sit down to cool off. Yes I have had heat stroke in the past and know the signs. As I tell people, when I quit sweating start worrying.

Hotest June on record here near Charlotte. Half the month was above 90. July has been high 90's and heat index yesterday was 102-105. Some mornings it is down to 64 at my house. When I lived in Florida the heat was crushing at 92 because of the high humidity. It has been like Florida here for the last few days. A few years ago when iwas in Pheonix it was 113 but the dew point was low and it felt more like 90 to me.

Charlotte may be hot, but it is still below what we have been experiencing here in Alabama. This week the heat index has reached 112 on some days. Actual temp has reached 100+ at some locations. This is actually normal for a time in July or Aug. The real killer has been the extreme humidity. The windows on houses usually are so fogged up they are running wet in the mornings. Hopefully, it will back off in a few weeks, & it will be some good flying weather. Ed

HI TY - I am in B'ham. As you probably know, there are 4 or 5 guys using the field in Clanton. I drive down occasionaly on Saturdays to fly with them, as there are not any controline guys in B'ham that I am aware of. I just got back from the Nats - rode up with Tom Morris. He has dug up two or three old flyers in Anniston who are interested in getting back into it, so he put together four Ringmasters a couple of weeks ago, & is helping them. Maybe we can get together at his place sometime in the near future. The contest in Clanton is scheduled for Oct. 1-2. Regards, Ed

The past two years our Dallas Summer Heat contest held each June in east Dallas county has been poorly attended and worked as well. We are just getting too old to stand the Texas summer heat. June was the hottest in recorded history. 1980, 1998, and now 2011 it has been a summer killer. We are in the worst drought conditions since 1955. It finally started raining again in May of 1957. It was a 4 year drought back then. I have not flown since the Ring Master Round Up back in mid May down in Houston. It was near 100 then with 25 mph sustained winds and gusts of over 35 mph. My next flying could come on any morning that I might venture out before 9 am. But probably will come in August in Albuquerque at their contest. It will be cooler there being a mile high. I am getting anxious to put up some flights on a couple of planes. But even at 7:30 in the evening it is still over 100 degrees. It is 102 as I write this and we will top out within the next two hours at 104 again. No rain in sight. My lake is dropping a inch a day. Most have pulled their boats out of their docks and have them loaded on trailers to go to other lakes for boating pleasure. Mine is just docked until the lake comes back up. But the hobby shop is cooled and I am happy.........

I was stationed at Fort Ord, CA (now, gone), and that statement is true IMO.

The only reason I mentioned Charlotte is we normaly have very mild weather here. Seldon to hot and only cold in Jan and Feb
I have flown on Christnas day many times here. July 4th was not bad as Will Davis and Watt Moore and myself flew at Huntersville

The jet was built by M.Waldorf from Binghamton NY in 1952. It is Old Time Legal.

We came down for the shuttle launch...The weather (temperature) was good. rode our Gold Wings several times...out to the Cape and up to Daytona...Hot, but comfortable. Now we are down at Boca Raton, FL, Plenty of rain...Wish it would travel Northwest to Arkansas. Almost 100 every day. It's going to be hard going back.
Trying to fly in that kind of stagnet air can be fatal to your ship.

After getting home and taking a week to clean out the camper due to heat, we finally got it to the shop. However, my insulating job in the shop is still awesome. One 5500 btu air conditioner still keeps the 5 car garage at any temp. I desire at 100 degrees outside without running very long. It's currently set at about 69 degrees and I'd rather stay in the garage than go into the house where the temp. is 72. Of course I'd rather be in the garage anyway since thar's my shop. No cars allowed!

5 car air conditioned garage? Must be nice. I have a 1 1/2 car garage with no A/C and no roof insulation. I share that with a washer/dryer.

Garf, remember that when I'm in Florida, My workshop is a door placed at the foot of the bed. That's it! No more! can't dope if I had to unless I sit out under the tree. Sanding's
a bear outside that condo also. One vehicle, no garage, NOTHING!!! and with wife's mother to take care of, six months out of the year. Not really complaning, just stating facts.

Lots of friends on this post Hello to all. OK in Stuart Fl. it is hot also, Humidity is high most of the time. We seldom get to 95 but it does happen (shore Breeze) I have never been to Clanton but this may be my year. I hope so. Have not been to Huntersville in a coons age so it is time to get there to. So many things get in the way to make contests and see friends. KOI is not real far so I manage to get there. Well I hope to see all of you somewhere along the way.

My daughter keeps telling me to move to Stuart FL as it doesn't get that hot. I laughed at her as the sweat was pouring off of me in Feb. Last Friday here in Shawnee, KS the temp gauge in the Ford said it was 104F. Friday night at the track the announcer said it was 1 hundred too hot degrees. Then Saturday on the way to the same track the Ford said it was 107F. Then cold wave Sunday as it showed only 85F. As I tell everybody, it could be worse and then laugh.

Doc, I have a little keyfob thermometer on my toolbox handle for the flying field. It said 105F in the sun, at the contest this weekend. That, in Richmond, British Columbia. Humidity was fairly high. Not that comfortable, but the BBQ was just wonderful!

In the deep shade under the tree cover it is 105 with a heat index of 130+ at my house east of Charlotte. It still seems cooler than when I lived in Florida. Maybe it is because the humidity is not high like in Florida

15 Days of 90 degrees or hotter

RIGHT NOW: Temperatures across Central Indiana are in the low 90s. Heat Index values are in the mid 90s. Skies are mostly to partly sunny and will continue to stay dry for the remainder of the day. Since we hit the 90s today, it makes the 15th 90º day in a row. The record of consecutive 90º days in a row is 19 set in 1936. We are on our way to either tie or break the record this week.

The weather Bureau is forcasting highs above 90 for the next 4 day and a cool off to a high of just 90 the 5th day which would set a new record!

To make it even worse we have had only 0.47 Inches of rain this month. The average for July is 4.43 Inches of rain.

I went out to my build bench to work on the Taube but the Thermometer beside the bench reads 100 Degrees. I turned the bench lights off and came back in to the 24 Degree cooler house.

I just saw your post.
I bought a 4 Ton AC and matching furnace by "American Standard" in Aug. 2009. Turns out the local distributer sold it to an installer that the factory never heard of. The factory had me contact there "Authorized installer" and it took them three tries to get it to work more than 10 days between service calls!

According to their service Technician the original installer sold me a grossly over size system for my 1300 Sq. Ft. ranch home. After they repaced the "Transfer Valve" to fix it the last time it was 90+ outside and 89 inside. In one hour it dropped the inside temperature 4 degrees.

What they're calling a "transfer valve" is probably the Thermal Expansion Valve (or TXV). It meters the refrigerant at the evaporator coil inlet. From my experience, Trane/American Standard TXV's can be troublesome.
Yes, a 4 ton system is a bit large for your home. A 3 ton would have been more than enough and a 2.5 ton may have done the job fine.
So much of the system performance is on the installer and it sounds like you had a real clown do the job. I'm not a dealer for American Standard, but I do think they make an OK product.

You may be right on the "TXV" they replaced. He identified the problem when he uncovered the"A" Coil and 3/4 of it was cast in ice.

the factory paid the $45 for the valve under warranty but I paid $670 to have it installed!

I feel real sorry for all you people. Today in Panama City, Fl the heat index hit 110, and tomarrow it's suppose to get to 115. Can't even jump in the Gulf. The water temperature is up around 86. Wait a minute I think I hear a hurricane comin! What flys good in a hurricane?

It's the 4th of August as I write this. According to the news in Toledo, we had 26 days over 90 in northwest Ohio.
I do know we had some heat indexes of 110 to 120. I've also seen my thermometer hit over 100 more than a few times last month. I do empathise with those in Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas though. I remember that when I lived in Kansas I wouldn't even turn the air conditioner on until it hit 100. But that was when I was much younger before I retired from the Army. I'm glad I don't have to work in that heat anymore.

Well the dogs and I finally got the motion detector light replaced on the shop yesterday afternoon. Thermometer on front porch showed 9degrees F. Didn't feel that hot to me, but the dogs were ready to get in the shop. Was going to mow the grass also but battery was down on the mower. Did get another coat of talc and dope on the ISW.
