for flooding my basement!  We basically got the eye of the storm and 6-7 inches of rain pretty quickly.  Gonna be a couple days to clean up.........  no other damage, thankfully.

Sorry to hear the news.  But, as the old saying goes, "It could have been worse".   Years ago I lost a plane and half my magazines when I had 2 1/2 feet of water in my basement.  I live on a hill/slope.  Then again when the sump pump didn't work because of power failure.  Didn't lose much that time.  Just hope you didn't lose anything important.  DOC Holliday

I find it odd that when the rest of the country is having gorgeous weather, we get rain and wind and uglies. When a hurricane is cruising through the south and the weather is questionable in most parts of the country, we get sunny skies and light winds.

Most odd.

Hi Bill,
Several years ago we had days of spring monsoon rains that put over a foot of water in my basement I lost most of my collection of American Modeler and American Aircraft Modeler and Model Builder magazines plus a lot of my field equipment. During the entire 50 + year life of this home the basement had ever only flooded to about 1/2" so all my low shelving was set to only about 7" off the floor- Suprise!! HB~>  Mother nature does what it will, so Bill, I totally sympathaize with your situation. I hope you have some kind of pumps to clear your basement.
A wet shop vac is also a necessity to dry out any water the pumps don't get out for you. I don't envy you that job and Lord knows I wish you well and hope you didn't take losses the way that I did.
Note * Get your tools out of the humidity as quickly as possible and quickly get them coated with anti-rust oil. I lost some tools because I did't act quickly enough and some pliers locked up and etc.

Best Wishes and Blessings on you my friend,

Bill,
I just went throuigh the same thing, except I only had about 4 inches of water.  But with the smell and mold that resulted I went through a LOT of bleach!  God's best to you, my friend, and take plenty of breaks!

Paul,
Man cave?  No girls allowed?  I can't do that, or the lady who lives upstairs that brings me a sandwich and coffee once in a while would have to let me starve!

HI Will,

After 25 years in this house, I have experienced three floods in the past couple of years.  Only one the entire 20 plus years previously!  One was *man made*, my condensate pump went out while we were gone, and it put a couple inches on the floor.  The others have been storms.  I have a floor drain in the basement, no sump pump, since the house is up on a hill!  But it still can build up so quick that several areas cannot drain.  I finally got the smell out from the last one............  I use a squeegee to push the water to the drain and then go from there.  Last time I got some damaged plans and a couple of short kits suffered a bit of water damage, but it was all usable in the end.  I can't complain too loudly!

Now, if the State will catch up my retirement checks (none yet, two plus months late!) and I can get the work shop to smelling somewhat ok, I will be back to building.  ;D  The Lord blesses fools and little children.......  He has sure looked after me!

Hi Bill,

Sorry to hear your problem.  :o Don't fool around with mold! I bought a house we knew it was a fixer upper, but it was in a neighborhood my wife & I really liked and got it for a song. I found out later from a neighbor had been flooded at one time from a plumbing issue.  HB~>

I had been having sinus problems since we moved in. I'd wake up in the morning with awful sinus headaches.  :X I sleep right next to the master bath, which my wife had trouble getting the mold in the grout to clean up, so we finally gutted that bath room. We ended up having to tear out the sheet rock walls, it was filled with black mold, and the other bath adjacent to it had to be done as well. I feel a lot better since we killed all the mold.

So I guess I'm saying, get it dry as fast as possible & don't spare the bleach!! :!

Hope it all goes smoothly,
EricV
