Got Photos? Don Hutchinson's Warbirds
« on: July 12, 2014, 07:54:04 PM »
As announced earlier, Don Hutchinson has given me permission to distribute his Warbird Plans, both on the forums and on eBay.  I think there will be a much greater interest and market than would be reached by listing them on the forums alone.

To that end, I am asking for photos of completed models and models under construction.  I am specifically asking if you have photos (preferably large files) that you will allow me to use in presenting his plans.  I can compensate you with a set of Don’s plans that you don’t have, and I’m open to alternative compensation.

Thanks for your consideration!

I'm not intending to sound negative here Dennis, but I think your request will be quite difficult to fulfill. I think only a few of these designs have ever seen any actual construction, with even fewer being completed. While Don's designs are excellent, very few examples have been built. There are a few of them I'd love to build myself, but like many, it's finding the time that's the problem. :(

I do know of one P-38 under construction though, it would be GREAT to see it finished...

I built the prototype Dauntless from Jim Snelson's short kit. If you send me your E-mail address I will forward some pics I took during construction as well as the finished plane. Jim still has the model.  8)

I understand that Wayne after many conversations with Don, but some photos are better than none.  I'd like to see Don get a greater appreciation for the work he's done; these are terrific-looking airplanes that first and foremost fly well!

I think a good "thumbnail" reduction photo of the plans with a water mark in them would present them very well for any that no photos are available of. I have almost all of Don's plans, and they leave very little to the imagination as to what they will look like when built. To my memory from reading the forums, I have seen pictures of Joe Gilbert's T-6, a J-3 Cub by Dale Gleason, and the already mentioned P-38 and Dauntless. I've seen Dale's J-3 here on the forum, I'm sure. Maybe one of Elwyn Aud's fine photographs. I was looking at the Hellcat drawings tonight, and it may be the first one I build out of the series. There have been Hellcat stunters before, but Don's looks the most scale like to my eye. I'm one of the previously mentioned people with not enough time to get much built, but I'm working on it.
Good luck with the project Dennis and hope they sell well, I think they a should. Even if I never get to build any of them, I sure do like admiring them!

Thanks Dan, great minds think alike.  :)

I've always thought the Hellcat is a natural for stunt - lots of wing, and a legend from the air war in the Pacific to boot.
