Fancy pants is s nice airplane...they fly nice ( well they dont square) but they fly nice rounds.

The fox will vibrate the heck out of it..... I recommend an OS  LA25 or FP20 for it, run a 10 x 4 prop.......  5% nitro on muffler pressure........cant beat it...

To Anyone Within Hearing Distance

Enough already, I have looked in I don't know how many places and it seems as if everytime someone mentions that they are going to use a "FOX .35 STUNT ENGINE" the first words out of most peoples mouths is DON'T. Just exactly why is that? I have used this motor for years and have had no trouble with it. I don't modify it in any way, not even a "Stuffer Back Plate". I break them in according to manufacturers specifications. They are consistant runners. Yes I concede they do vibrate, but not bad enough to shake an airplane apart. SHEEEESH. FOX .35 STUNT ENGINES have withstood the test of time. If you choose not to use this engine then by all means don't, but because you don't want to doesn't mean that nobody should. I better stop before I say something I will be sorry for. Right on "Marvin" I agree it is the IDEAL  CHOICE. I usually say something about "FLAMETHROWERS" right here, but this time I don't care. This is how I feel. NOW THATS MY STORY AND I'M STICKIN TO IT.

Good for you Biily G,  if people would just take the time to break in a Fox 35 and run it accordingly they would be happy.  Too many people like the buy the engine and put it on the plane and fly.  Then wonder why they wear out so fast.  DOC Holliday

Hey G-Man, H^^
I think Wynn is a little like me. Like Marv, Foxes have stood the test of time. They are great engines in the right hands.

Propbuster and I have Foxes and OS engines. Me being the pit man most of the time, the OS's are more user friendly for folks like me. I am not real good at setting the engines. Foxes can be a little harder to needle in the wrong hands.
My feeling is that every engine has to be "fiddled" with a little. (Kind of like women)
Most Foxes and OS's need to have the NVA replaced. Head shims, or different plugs.
I have ST's on my foxes and OS engines, and had to replace the back plate on the OS .40. (I think because I had nosed the Twister in on a figure 9) The OS .46 runs great right out of the box. We have a L&J Fox that runs a great 2-4 break when my buddy Kreth sets the needle. ( Do'nt get Kreth started on my old McCoy) <=

Any way I like all engines, but some are just more user friendly. (And we can get fuel at the LHS for the OS).
We have to order Fox blends.

Not to hi-Jack the thread......
I like your Fancy Pants. And no you don't hear much about them. This might be a model for OTS or Classic, but then I am no expert.

Keep us posted with the build process.

First off before I hijack this thread, The Fancy Pants should make a nice plane. I have never flown on, but I always liked their looks. Don't forget the picture when it is done.

HIGHJACKING I see where many people recommend changing the needle valves on a Fox. The obvious reason is that they work better but my question is why.

I believe the threads on a stock Fox NVA are a little loose, sometimes creates an air leak.  I love my ole' Fox stunt .35, had it for years, very reliable. It'll do what it does, every time, just the same as last time. Just don't care for the needle.

Apropos of nothing, my very first stunt engine was a Fox .25, on a Flite Streak--that engine remained my favorite for years even when all around me were going to McCoys, Vecos, Maxes, etc. Kinda like a well-trained pet: It never bit me, always did what I asked, absolutely reliable. Nothing fancy, powerful, pretty nor fast--just always there, ready to go when I was.  Wish I still had it (can't recall what happened to it).

Will people still be running (and buying) their current modern engines 50 years from now? Who knows, but I wouldn't put my money on it.  That kind of success is hard to knock.

Dwayne, good choice of engine for your Fancy Pants....The  Fox Stunt .35 is light, easy to handle, and when properly broken in using the correct fuel, will give you years of service......and please keep in mind that the Stunt .35 has won more contests then all the rest put togather...... H^^

Hey Bill
I used to be that kid on that rice rocket only it used to be the 1970's and we rode Kawi tripples, Yeah baby two strokes!! 350, 400, 500 and the grand daddy of them all the 750 Tripple!! We would step up the main jets put on expansion chambers and a smaller rear sprocket, what we would end up with is a bike that would bog off the line but when you get up around 5000 rpm  you drop it down a gear and clack the throtle and it will pick the front wheel up  at 70 mph!! No kidding!! I love it I'm 48 years old and I miss it!!!

Fox will work, tho higher fuel consumption is a bother for this small design. Watch the weight, seal the hingelines and make the flap/elev. ratio adjustable. Mike Haverly's always flipped over on landings in grass, FWIW. Also needed a Magnum .25/.36 muffler to balance.  mw~ Steve

I've built 6 of them. Keep the weight under 30 oz. build straight, reduce flap/elevator ratio to 2:3, run a .25 or smaller engine so that you can use .012" diameter lines. Mine fly as well as my "full size" stunters and have absolutely no problem turning hard square corners. They also fly very well in the wind.

hmmmm  I fail to see where I said "dont use the FOX"  I just said it will vibrate the  heck out of it......this does not mean it will desttroy the airplane....

I guess some people read what they want to see..

I said " I would recommend as OS"   as this is what I am using and am VERY happy with it.......

for the record, I have owned Fox's and they do work well. ( the best engien I have ever used on a Bi-Slob) ......I do not however like the mess they make due to the oil content needed to run them, but I DID NOT say do not use one...

Aaron, my oldest, used a Fancy Pants for his first Classic contest plane.  Built directly from the kit.  Box stock Fox 35 and all.  He had his class won at the East Coast Oldie Goldies Meet at Myrtle Beach, but missed the needle and didn't get two laps before landing costing him pattern points.  It is a close call on fuel the Fox we used.  Later we relieved (rounded) the lower edge of the intake port on that Fox and it gave us enough run time to be safe.

I dearly loved the way it flew!  Mike Garmon used one a lot, along with a few other guys.  Trimmed right, it would turn a very nice corner!  BTW: the plane is still airworthy some 10 or more years later.  I have considered putting a 1957 Fox 25 stunt in it.

As some said, try to keep it light, and we found it was a very good windy weather plane.

To Wynn Robins;

Please accept my appology for any of my remarks that were directed to you, I meant them as general remarks as directed toward the Fox .35 engine in general. I did not mean to make it sound like I was going after any individual person. I was just tired of hearing about a good engine being bad mouthed. The farthest thing from my mind was to step on anyones toes. OK? I guess what I should have done was kept my mouth shut and said nothing, but I really had to stand up for the "old girl". That engine has been a life long friend. If I ever get to meet you the first round is on me.

Now that Billy G has smoothed things out for us Fox users, back to the Fancy Pants.  I have thought about one several times ever since I seen Bobby Hunt compete with one at VSC years ago.  Seems to me it flew very well.  I am surprised he has not commented on it yet.  Later,  DOC Holliday

Dwayne,
I finished a "Fancy Pants" this winter and it's powered with a Fox 35.  A Super Tigre needle valve is used and it was test flown several weeks ago.  All went well and the full pattern was flown after the second flight.  You should be very happy with this plane.  Since I don't know how to reduce the size of pictures to post here, I'll included a link to my photo album section at yahoo.  Hope it works and you'll get a look at another "Fancy Pants".

I see Burger King has been advertising again with "Sponge Bob Square Pants".  I'd have to see if they have something suitable for a pilot figure. Just naturally would be called "Sponge Bob Fancy Pants", of course.  LL~

Ah, the good old Fox 35. what an egine. Despite the loose manufacturing standard of this engine it is a legend. It was my first stunt engine after I wore my Olson 33 out. It was the 4bole head and 2 bolt backplate and sandcast case. At that time it was the one with the power. When they changed the case design it got better. It was the perfect 2-4 break engine an still is. The fanct pants is a good plane. I put it in the same class as the Super Clown an it can be trimmed  to fly a very good pattern. I also put this in the same class as the Feno. Its a good plane to learn how to build strait and learn how to trim. I recomend both of these. My only caution is dont top prime the engine in could weather because it will belch fire. I have burned a few planes with this engine.
