My friend Mark who manages the local hobby shop had a friend of his bring in a Sig Super Chipmunk and a Berkely Lil Duper Zilch. The only part missing from the two kits was one fuselage side panel from the Zilch, a very easy part to replace. It seems both kits were in the attic for many years when the owner decided to sell them. Anyway I got them both for a very good price and everybody is happy. As much as I love electric powered planes I am planing to put a PAW .19 Diesel in the Zilch, it should make a great OTS plane. The Chipmunk will be electric given my luck with gas. I plan to use the parts in the Chipmunk for patterns and build the plane from my stock of wood. I will probably do the same with the Zilch.
It's a good day in the neighborhood. y1

That's very cool. I'd like to build both of those planes one day.

What sort of engine was shown on the plans of the Lil Duper Zilch? I'm thinking the PAW .19 is a lot of engine for it. Then again, all those iterations of Zilch really are hard to keep sorted.
Some years ago, I messed about with an early vertical intake PAW .19 (still have it, available cheap!) and promptly sold all my D-Bat stuff. Ewwww! LL~ Steve
PS: Shouldn't you be in Tucson?

I just opened the box for the first time and guess what there are no plans. The wing is very basic construction with a notched leading edge so no plans are needed for the wing, and the box top shows a three step process to assemble the fuselage. Berkely was obviously trying to save money. More to your question regarding the engine, the wing spans 42 inches without tips and the cord is about 8 inches. So it's about 320 square inches, I am starting to think a .19 diesel might not be enough. I built a Wee Duper Zilch a couple years back for VSC, it called for a .29. I used a .35 ignition and it flew OK, the wing was just too small for the weight of the plane. I may go to a .35 on the Lil Duper Zilch, although I do have a PAW .29 diesel as well. I would think a .29 diesel would be enough. Electric would be so much better, but even I have to admit it would be so wrong. Looking at the wood, I will definitely use the parts for stencils and make a new kit from my wood. I think it should make a decent OTS plane. y1

Why aren't you in Tucson? We miss you! More to the point, we miss Jackie's baked cookies!!! LL~

Yeah Andy, what's your excuse???? I have already posted mine on other posts.

Mike,
That's right...just focus on the important things!

Let's see several hundred dollars worth of dental work or VSC, it simply cost more than I could afford this year. I will do my very best to make next year. I promise Jackie will bring cookies.
