Does gorilla glue have a shelf life, and how do you detrmine what it is?
-
I guess it does. First bottle I had was enough to do the Primary Force fuselage with some left over. About 6 months later I tried to use it and it was set up in the bottle. Great stuff for laminating balsa and ply. D>K

Yes, it has a self life! Heat & moisture shorten its life. Sun light may be a factor also. It is near the end of it's shelf life when it becomes thick & is difficult to get out of the bottle. It is at the end of it's shelf life when you can't get it out of the bottle.
I only buy the small bottles. I don't use it often. The bottle is often bad when I go to use it. I keep it in a cool, dark, A/C space in the house.

Buy the smallest bottles possible instead of one larger one. Less waste.

Also, when you are going to store it, squeeze the air out of the bottle before capping it and that will extend the storage life. I use a LOT of it and still buy the small bottles!

Have you ever used this?

i haven't used it, but other than Gorilla glue, the stuff I'm using wouldn't benefit from it. Their website says lacquers won't, and the Nasan poly I use doesn't go bad from setting. (Except for the accelerator, but that goes south because of moisture and I seal the can and then put it in a sealed baggie for safety sake.
It seems like it would be good to have for non-dope materials since dope is a lacquer based product. Thanks for posting this, Frank, it has to have a place in my shop for something, like maybe I can buy larger quantities of the Gorilla glue and make fewer trips to Ace hardware!

I bought a bottle of titebond brand polyurethane glue recently at Woodcraft. The salesman recommended placing a drop or two of mineral spirits (from an eye dropper or similar) in the bottle after each use to displace the oxygen inside the closed bottle. He indicated that this will significantly increase the usable shelf life of polyurethane glues. I haven't tried this method yet, but it's something to consider.

There was a product like this out several years ago but for treating your fuel jug instead. After a flying session, give it a blast from the can and put the cap on. As the jug empties, it takes a lot more to evacuate the air and you have no way of knowing if it's doing any good or not. Any heavy inert gas would work, just need a way to dispense it.
Type at you later,

Will, Frank,
Not sure the "Bloxygen" will work for dope. In the product specifications it said this "Please note: Full can feels empty. Works best with oil-based finishes. Lacquer finishes and latex paints will not benefit.

Hi Larry, howyadoin? Take another read of reply number 6, it expressed "non-dope" products.

Thanks guy's, that helped a lot...
