Gordan Delaney's New Ki-61 Tony
« on: September 16, 2015, 05:30:36 PM »
Here are some pictures of Gordan Delaney's new Ki-61 Tony.

His previous Tony met its demise last fall from a leadout failure and submitted to the divine wind as a true Kamikaze warrior.  神風

Shortly after the crash, Gordan began building this new and improved version that is spectacular indeed.
It's within 2% of scale on the fuselage and the wing has the dihedral built into the bottom side only.

Powered by a Saito .82.

The cockpit on both models is fully detailed and is truly amazing to see.

Roger Kramar built his equally beautiful blue tail Tony concurrently at Gordan's shop.  His is identical save for the blue regalia and a Saito .72 powerplant.

Amazing craftsmanship and truly beautiful in the air.  Worthy of the front row and a 20pt finish score!

Thanks Guys for the nice comments. Now all the plane needs is a pilot to fly it. I`m in a lot of pain with my feet. Getting harder to fly. Would like to attend at least one more Contest. Maybe the North west contest or the Golden State.

Gordy,
Most of the usual suspects from the PNW are heading down to Madera next month.  Sure would be great to see the new Tony and it's infamous pilot again.  You and I can sit around with our sore limbs and make fun of all the young wipper snappers.

Yes, Gordon is a one of a kind. The combat guys claim him as one of their own, like Howard and Phil. Fast combat at the 95 Nats was stopped so we could all watch the B17 fly, but Gordon stole the show with his twin while he "wind flew" much of the pattern after blowing a maneuver.
Here is one of my favorite "Gordon stories".

Wow Gordy!  Yes, come to Madera.  I'm sure you can find a pilot, or maybe you'll notice that there are of geezers around that can barely walk and just do the job yourself.

Ken,
That was not too funny at that time, as my plane was on fire. Then when I read the story as it unfolded I don`t remember laughing that hard in a long time. Since then I repaired the plane a flew it. Still flies great.
Great story teller.

Great looking planes and I wonder how you stay in the circle with such big planes.  But, I also wonder with all that detail, where is the pilot?

Hi Gordy,
Really sorry to hear that the feet are not getting better.

Hey, although I sincerely hope they do get better, you don't need to worry about the airplane.  I'm sure there are plenty of guys that would be happy to fly it for you!!!   #^ #^ Me included!!   #^ #^  You can sit and WORRY!   LL~ LL~

That would be a lot of incentive to force the feet to get better!

The Marchenke Contest is here in just over a week or so...!!!

Lovely!
Is it a published design?
I built a Blue Pants as a kid. Wish I still had it. Might even learn to fly it.

Yes, It was published in flying models about ten years ago. Its one that I designed. John Miller did the auto-cad for me. This is my second one that I have build.

Not available at the moment then, although the Flying Models website says there's a new owner.

I saw that Pat Johnston has a Ki-61 plan too. He hasn't posted here for some time now.

Another beauty Gordy!

At first, I thought, "oh, that must be a grandkid holding the plane". then I clicked on the thumbnail to view the full size picture.

Good grief man, that thing is HUGE!  :o No wonder your feet hurt, probably from flying that thing leaning back at 45 degree angle with your heels dug in! Maybe your next one should be the classic Warburton size to save your health?

Kidding aside, I hope you find an amicable cure. Foot pain is nothing to mess around with, weather it's neuropathy, joint or otherwise. Don't give in, keep fighting!

The paint work looks fantastic. With that fuselage looking so large, I had to wonder what size prop is that? 15" ? 16" ?

I hope I get to see it fly some day.

I was fortunate enough to see Gordon's original Saito 72 powered Tony in Los Angeles. It was indeed spectacular in the air. It had an incredible jump to vertical. The big Saito made a beautiful sound in the air, which contributed to the overall presentation. One of the best overall packages I have ever seen.

George,
I have to have John my cad man to make some corrections before any plans are sent out. I`ll check with John to see when he can work on them.
