Google earth handy for finding flying spots
« on: April 18, 2007, 05:48:09 PM »
I love google earth. Saved me a ton of time hunting down spaces to mark as potential flying spots. One is actually walking distance from me. It is in a industrial park of sorts. It is a paved parking area that is unused as the surrounding buildings are un occupied. It is roughly 128 feet square which eliminayes flying on 70 foot lines but is plenty big for 60's. No homes near by and the place is absolutely deserted on the week ends.

There is a grass area not far from this site that I have yet to check out, this one is big enough for 70 footers as the area is about 200 ft sqare. From the sat photo it looks like the area is mowed so it bears closer examination. It is also within this industrial park.

These sites are in Bohemia Ny on long island near islip airport, between lakeland ave and orville drive.

Google Earth won't work on dialup. I would have to access it from work, and that could prove tricky.

You probably already know about it, but just in case you don't there is a very nice collection of Google Earth model aircraft flying fields waypoints. Many are R/C clubs, but I have seen some with C/L circles.

Well, I loaded google earth on the work computer. It takes forever to load it, but it works.
