Title: Goofing off pics...
Post by: Andrew Hathaway on April 29, 2006, 12:48:09 PM
While I was digging for autogyro shots, I happened to come across a shot of the 1/2A Banshee and the matching full size version that I was looking for several weeks back.

Another shot I thought someone might get a kick out of is the dueling BiSlobs.  It might be hard to make out, but yes there are streamers, and yes it was fun up until I lost control (is anyone ever truly in control of a BiSlob?) and somehow it rolled and pulled the lines through the upper flap...  The purple streamer is on my Slob, the yellow was on Jim Lee's.

The final shot is of the planes laid out while loading the van for the Sig contest, probably from about 1995 or maybe 96.  Go ahead and try getting that many planes in an Explorer.  This is a fun shot, because you can see my Banshee that I finally piled in last summer, Dad's ancient Twister with a G21 .46 (now has an LA 40 that doesn't come close to compairing).  There are three Skyray/Flite Streak type planes that have all been completely destroyed and rebuilt since the picture.  The red/white/blue Ringmaster was crashed at Sig that year and didn't get rebuilt till two years ago.  And there's a hand me down Skyray carrier plane from WR Crane (Mr Clean).

All these pictures are 10 years old.  They're not very clear because I still haven't mastered the scanner.  I apologize but hope they're entertaining.

The Banshee is really a good plane, every bit as good as the Twister, but the long nose and goofy rudder are a heavy penalty.  Chop 2-2.5" off the nose, kitbash a new rudder, and it works pretty well with a OS 35-40fp.  The REALLY big Flite Steak in the picture is actually a Banshee too, the Stuka all the way back under the tree is really just a Twister.

The Stuka is simply a kit Twister wing, with Fancher Twister moments, a built up fuselage and Don Still Stuka outlines.  Dad finished it just before Sig that year.  I don't have any better pictures of it, but there was a picture of me holding the plane next to the van at Sig published in Stunt News.  It flies pretty good, or it did... I was just starting to get it trimmed when I crashed it last summer.  I still have to repair it.
