Jim,

I would get a second engine and build a twin!!!  ;D

I have a twin in my bucket.  #^

Many mid size profiles are excellent choices for that engine. Shoestring as good as the rest. Which would include any of the Streaks, other CG Brodak Profiles, Buster, Cosmic Wind. I've seen the Shark 402 win stuff at local contests in Advanced powered by a similar engine. Fancy Pants, Barnstormer, also appropraiate. If you want to build a full fuse plane.

Dennis just gave you some excellent suggestions .  My choice would be a Streak.

It depends on your skill level.  I had an LA 25 in a Sig Skyray which made a very nice combination.  I've been told by numerous smart people that a plane that would work well with a Fox 35 would work well with an LA 25, but I haven't had the courage to try (other than the Skyray).

My one and only OS25-LA has been on a SuperClown its entire life - 8 years .... excellent combination

Hey Jim,

What do you plan to do with it, learn the pattern, or sport fly?

A Still Stuka or Jetco Dolphin.
Even a light Nobler

Even a light Nobler

The Still Stuka would be a good choice, and the Dolphin is a proven winner (with a Veco 19, which is a tad weaker than a 20FP). I was going to build a Stuka but a local flier had one that was so good I couldn't bring myself to build  one and thus suffer by comparison.

I have another one just about ready for paint.
You know the last one was scattered all across the pavement at Whittier Narrows. (I hate it when that happens)
The aft section is sticking out of the wall at Warren Walkers "Man Cave". It makes for an interesting conversation piece.

Build one anyway Brett!! I know you'll love it . With an FP .20 and a 9x4 APC prop, I flew it with .012 lines at 58 ft.
It very much had the feel of a Skyray, but with a little more pop in the corners.

One more thing, I highly recommend a four inch bell crank.

From your above comment, The Sig Skyray would be the PERFECT choice for you.
It builds quick, its very durable and quite capable of 500 point flights.

Start off a tad nose heavy, and as you become more comfortable with it you can slowly move the CG back to get a very smooth, responsive performance.

I know a guy here on this forum who will be more than happy to point you in the right direction on set-up and trim.

Buy and build the Skyray and you'll thank me later.

The Sky Ray .35 is a good choice, and a lot of folks that fly with Larry have them.
Given the chance to do it over again, I would try to de-power the engine jus a tad
by either restricting the air inlet or using 5% nitro fuel. Both with a 9-4 prop.

I like the Cosmic Wind (sold as "Mass Sarah" by RSM) because it has more room for the tank
and has a tapered wing, which flies a bit better with less drag.

In any case, be sure to build with adjustable leadouts, even the Fancy Pants.

Hi Jim,

Many great suggestions!  For a profile: The Skyray 35, or a Flight Streak.
For a built up fuselage:  Combat Streak (Umland), Still Stuka, Dolphin, Mackey Bluebird, or Fancy Pants.  I have also seen a Nobler ARF do great in Classic with the .25LA.

Hi!  You mention the Brodak Fancy Pants; well let me assure you, it's a very nice, reliable plane.  Now as you can see there are as many preferences as there are responders but I've built, flown and thoroughly enjoyed my Fancy Pants .... even with my old 50th anniversary Fox 35 .... I've had a ball and I believe you would also.  Well, that's my suggestion.  Take care!!

Ahem, now it's 547 (5 minutes after semi-crashing from hooking the controls up backwards). My first Skyray flight at Whittier Narrows was clearly superior to my first real stunt flight.

My CG is now very far forward compared to what I had been using before.

Thanks for all the great advise  guys. . FedEx just dropped of the 25 so now it's time order the plane. .

I'll be ordering the fancy pants for a couple of reason . It has flaps it has landing gear in the wing I like the looks of the plane with a turtle deck and canopy

Thanks again

Ringmaster too small for an OS 25? Don't think so. They fly great on a 25 FP.
Many of that combo at the Roundup. Nothing wrong with it.

I believe the Fancy Pants it is classic legal also, for sure N-30 if you are so inclined. I think it was a kit offered by Consolidated? I remember seeing a box for one stuffed into the basement rafters when I was a kid and could only see the end panel with the distinctive diamond logo of theirs. I have a cousin that was a member of the old St. Louis Yellow Jackets that was building and flying control line models back then, and he may have given it to one of my older brothers. It was one of those things that I wasn't supposed to touch, but I was way too short to reach it any way! I don't know what happened to it. I bought the Brodak kit when it came out just for that reason, and I also like the looks of the airplane. I built a similar looking design called "Ruby" for the first VSC I attended and it is about the same size. I'll probably use a Fox .35 on mine when the time comes, but the LA.25/FP.25 should fly this one well.
  Type at you later,

If you run the engine at the proper speed, there's no commonly available prop that will keep it at rational lap times. I know, we tested it. Veco 19BB = 4.2 second laps, 20FP = 3.8 second laps. We didn't try the "new" 25LA, but I would expect more like 3.5. That's with an APC 9-4.

The alternative is trying to run the engine abnormally slow, or choke it down somehow (like with an ST spraybar).

All very good suggestions for the .25.  If you decide on a profile also see the new kits available from Southridge CNC models right here on Stunthanger.   They are very nice and well priced.....

547 ?!?!?!?  I'm not surprised. Jeff Anderson always said you could put up a 500 point flight with a brick once you got the lead outs adjusted right

My CG is now very far forward compared to what I had been using before.

    Brett

With the forward CG, are you using a larger stab/elevator?
The very best Skyray was Aarons second version, with a 4 inch bell crank and very slow controls, it liked the C/G around an inch aft of the leading edge.

I have all the parts cut out for a couple of Skyrays now. Should I make the stab/elevator bigger and shorten the fuse?

I had 3.5 of them. They do well with an OS .25.  Sometimes I used an APC 9-4, other times an APC 9-5.

For a while I had a muffler with a mute and it helped with the CG location.

I made a plug mould for the turtle deck so it could be one piece all the way back.

Rex

PS : The fuselage is sometimes a bit difficult to repair.

Any design that works well with a Fox 35 will work fine with an OS 25 LA.  Or the OS 25 FP.  Keep it light, whatever it is.

This plane looks to have a wing profile similar to the Max bee -fat at the back near the hinge line- ... Is there a link for the plans download?

Thanks,
Chris.
PS. Good luck on the Fancy Pants, Jim. Lets see some pics along the way, if you have time?

It predates the existence of the Max Bee by something like 40 years, and this one Al Rabe really did invent, or at least discover the utility of for stunt.

Uhhhh Maybe but I flew a 19 oz Ringmaster for Old Time Stunt for several years and it was an excellent flier for that event with a 10-3 or 10-4 APC prop.  (launch at 11,400 RPM with the 10-3, 5.0 second laps on 61 ft lines)

Excellent flier and very competitive.  It was also capable of very easily flying the complete PAMPA Stunt pattern.

The Sky Ray or Flite Streak are slightly better fliers but they are not OT Legal.  I also taught several people to fly and a couple of folks the elementary maneuvers in th PAMPA Stunt Pattern with the Ringmaster.

Very reliable and excellent combination and I wouldn't just dismiss it as Too Small!

Randy Cuberly
PS:  As a trainer that combination has few peers!

Any chance you might know where to find the plans in a PDF?

Thanks either way.

While the model was designed by an Argentine, the kit is manufactured and marketed in Brazil. Maybe Luiz can give more information.
I have no information on weight.

Thanks Chris, Luis, and Juan.

My old eyes missed the PDF file.  Nice plan but it doesn't seem to have any scale size reference on it.

A friend of mine is looking for something a little different to build for his second CL airplane and I thought this one might appeal to him.

Yes Doc,
But, a small measuring error at 1/4 inch becomes a large error at 40 inches.  It's always better to have a scale reference rule when scaling up a small drawing.  Unless of course you're a really OLD man like one of my friends and don't care!!!  y1 <=
