Good news in Canada

Transport Canada has ruled that control line models are no threat  to air traffic and therefore no identification stickers or numbers  are required on our planes. It is my hope that the same happens for our friends in the States, with all the nonsense happening for rc flyers might we see a resurgence of c/l flyers? We can hope.

So first the Brits, and now our Canadian brothers. Now we need the Aussies and New Zealand to step up. Then we can take up a collection and try to influence Zamboanga and that ought to shame the Feds into admitting that control line planes are not remote controlled, they don't use/need GPS or autopilot, and aren't "drones" but are strapped to the operator on the ground.

You sure you don’t mean England? I have not seen anything for Canada, but have seen documentation from GB.
Do you have a reference I could look up?

I finally got a reply from the FAA.    I am pasting it in here.  Even though they say this and at least it is coming from an FAA person, i am still not comfortable until I can read it in the regulations themselves.  Why can't they just add that one sentence it to the regulations"  Any good lawyer could do that in about three pages.

The AMA (our Community Based Organization) says control line, free flight and indoor model airplanes are exempt from registration but we can find nothing in anything coming from the FAA that confirms this.

Just think if I get caught flying my control line plane and arrested to be locked up with a place to sleep and food to eat.  You think our politicians, FAA and AMA would care?

Maybe he left off they will however require transponders with MODE C.   He he, it ain't over yet.  I've flown CL at active airports and nobody cared. Best not make a problem where none exists. Leave well enough alone, keep flying and don't worry about it.  In my experience as a pilot over 40 years, the FAA are pretty darned professional and reasonable.

I've read stories on this site about the FAA "Walking up and down the ramp issuing tickets" which, any pilot will tell you, isn't how they work. It's not illegal to leave a rotting corpse of an airframe tied down on the ramp.

Take all the things that you read about them with a large grain of salt.

They're pretty good people in my first hand experience.

I really hope this is true .

The final regulations aren’t official until June the first.(maybe)  Until then I’ll be sceptical about anything Transport Canada and the rest of the Federal government do on this file .

When I see it in print ....I’ll believe it.

 We were out flying the last two days. Difficult to believe a bunch of old farts flying toy airplanes on the back forty of my BeanField are a threat to western society!
