Title: Good news!
Post by: steven yampolsky on May 09, 2013, 05:20:58 AM
Last night, "Discover Flying RC Club" has voted to create CL flying area! They've already cleared an area and mowed it nice and short so I can start fly anytime. They've also voted to invest club's funds to create cement circle center pad. What's so special about that you may ask. Well, the club is located on Cape Cod! Cape Cod is one of the most picturesque vacation destinations in New England.

Steve,

I flew a seaplane all around the Cape and Islands doing tours and charter for a few years. Mostly the Islands.

That nice Cape Cod sea breeze will come in handy.

It's a beautiful place.

Thanks for those photos.

Doesn't the wind always blow at Cape Cod?  (Good for tourists, but not so good for C/L stunt.)

Well Pard...it's tough to see grass moving in a STILL photo  y1 y1

I was stationed at Ft Devons MA a couple of times during the 1960's and visited Cape Cod more than a dozen times.  Whenever I was there the wind blew...my memory tells me that it wasn't just a gentle breeze either.

My guess is it's gonna be a tough sell to get folks to fly CL Stunt there unless it's in a very protected area.

It is a very beautiful place!  The fishing was always great!

Havn't there been some proposals to put windmill farms in that area?  That might be a sign that there is some wind around there.

Steve,

I see by the club's website that it's in Marston Mills. We stayed in The Inn At Centerville Corners a few years ago and had a wonderful time on Cape Cod. You've just given me another reason for a return visit! And by the way, we remember some light breezes but no really windy weather. I think conditions will be fine for us there.

I went flying today for the first time at the new field and the wind was stunt heaven: 2-3mph. I also spoke to RC guys and they said that id does get very windy. When I asked how much, they said as high as 15mph! I had to try VERY hard to keep a straight face and not to laugh.  LL~

I've been going to Cape Cod several times a summer for close to 20 years. Yes, it is windy on the beach, especially on the east facing shoreline, but walk half a mile inland and it becomes a very light breeze. The club is located on the wide part of the cape, 7 miles away from the shore.

Wind farms will work on ANY coast, not just New England. The reason why the ENTIRE country has heard of this debacle is because the area where they wanted to install wind turbines were visible from the 30 million dollar mansions of the rich and famous(read, The Kennedy Family compound) and we can't have that, can we?

Wow that's great news!!! Good job with your efforts to create a new CL field and promoting CL with your RC bros. All the best and it does seem like truly picturesque place to fly. Certainly you'll gain an RC cross-over or two and hopefully even more!

That's excellent news ! Looks like a nice destination for those of us who like to travel and visit other sites. Most places have wind patterns and once you get to know them you can work in you best times to fly. Looks like a beautiful place.

Massachusetts has two jewels: Cape Cod and Berkshires. Both are very picturesque and are wonderful vacation destinations. We have an annual August contest called "Stunt in Berkshires" which is by far my favorite contest.

Maybe one of these days we can get a contest going on Cape Cod as well...

Seve, that's really cool! I envy your site and proximity. I've never been to Cape Cod, although I've spent much time on the maine and Hatteras area coastlines. 'love the Berkshires too - lot's of music in those hills. 'hope you have many happy hours - and years - of enjoyment there.

I participated in several Cross Country Motorcycle races in the Berkshirs in the early 70's and definitely agree that they are a Jewell.
One of the most beautiful places on earth in my opinion.  Plenty of rocks and mud to make a good race also.
I've always had a desire to go back there.
