What's the story? Who's the CD? Clovis, Gilroy, or Woodland? Folks need to make plans and save up some gas money.  S?P Steve

A lot of gas money.

Nonsense. If I can get to the N.W.R., you guys can get to Golden State. However I'll give you a little on this one because the GSSC is usually held about 3 hours SOUTH of me.

Hope to see you there!!

You meant that you'd contribute to our gasoline fund? That's mighty neighborly of you, Clint. I figure around $470  worth of regular for the trip. My Toyota doesn't like the 81 octane California gas, so I have to run mid-grade once I cross the border. Plan on a bit more for that, ok? Dig deep, every little bit helps. Remember, we're about 5 hours NORTH of Eugene.   H^^ Steve

Hey Steve; your giving CA a bad name; not that it doesn't deserve it however, but our "bad" gas is 87, not 81 octane. The lowest I've seen driving around the west is 85, seen that in several states. However, my truck and MH both seem to run fine on it.

The gas is fine, but Steve's estimate is high for me (of course, the car I'd drive would get around 28mpg). Still, it would be a $400 dollar bill for me + lodging and food. Call it a 600-700 dollar trip. So planning is everything.

Well I just had my 3rd October weekend eaten up . . . a friend is getting married. No matter what date gets picked, if any, I may SOL already.   n1  And I only live 20 miles from last years site, cost me about 10 bucks for gas. How cruel is that!  HB~> HB~>

I would love to know the GSSC date at least 6 months out; a year would be better.

Brian,  you may have to do like the old DOC and get your priorities straight.   A few years back I would alternate Labor Day weekend with Denver one year and Dallas the next.   This particular year the wife says the oldest daughter is getting married again.  When told it was on the Denver contest date, I replied I would see them when I got back.   All the family knew I have Labor Day weekend tied up with a contest.  Now that same daughter is on her third marriage.   Now if it wasn't so far I would drive to the land of fruits and nuts just to irritate you guys and gals. LL~ LL~ LL~  Really I have never been in California.   Las Vegas or Tuscon is as close as I have been.   Don't forget the pictures.

Come on out.  The scenery is great from KC west.  Well, maybe from Denver west, although I enjoy Kansas and Nebraska, too.

What, Brian can't make it? OK, it's cancelled, can't have a contest without the pre-contest practice fly/weenie roast. Guess I save some gas money this year. (Actually, hope I'm wrong here).  8)

Maybe I just got one bad tank of regular. But it was Chevron, in Yreka. Busy station, should have been ok. It just ran turrible. I remember the time when I figured my gas bill for driving to LA at 24mpg would be about $50...

Jerry Silver just posted a date and preliminary info on the GSSC for 2011. Since I'm on Social Insecurity, I'll have to check with the wife if I can go visit my brother again so soon. Which brings up the subject of when is the Las Vegas contest???? I hope Brian will be able to make it to the GSSC on those dates;  I need some hotdogs...been staying clear of them since last year, to build up an intolerance.  ;D Steve

You were lucky on the gas.  Mine was when I still had the old Chevy 1/2ton.  Filled up the tank and went on home with no problems.  It was the next night going to work it started acting up.   Thought I had got water in the tank.  After getting to work I lifted the hood per the advice of a co-worker so he could look at the engine.  Simple fix as the spark plug wire had got against the exhaust header and shorted out.   H^^

I just checked the scheduled dates for the event, and all I can say is YEEE HAAAAAA! That's my open weekend in October!! The calendar gods are looking out for me for sure.

OK, next week I'll check with the church and get permission to host our now infamous Friday Practice and Hot Dog feast.  y1 y1 (I don't see a problem, but we have to be approved, and get on the calendar.)  As soon as I get the church's approval, I'll post it here. Hey Steve, to help you with gas money, I'll spring for the Spicy Brown Mustard out of my own pocket.  LL~

And Doc; now is your chance to see all of the West!! Make a trip out of it and spend some time seeing Yosemite, it's just 90 miles away. I'm hoping to start making the Tucson and Phoenix events, so maybe we'll meet someday.
