Title: Golden State Stunt Championships; Need Doug Moon!
Post by: Brian Massey on October 08, 2014, 04:00:08 PM
I'm looking over the results from the NATS, and we will have four of the top five flyers at the GSSC! Dave Fitzgerald; Paul Walker; Brett Buck and Howard Rush. We are only missing Doug Moon who took second.

OK Doug, get here and make it complete! Doesn't start until October 18th, so you still have time.  y1

4 out of 5?  Obviously must be some kind of west-coast conspiracy!   >:D

Where is Jimmie Casales when you need him?

You mean the past champion is not coming out to fly.   Where's Teddy, Bob and Keith.

They will likely all be there, too. Brian mentioned Doug only because he is the only one missing from this year's flyoff.

I thought I was a real hotshot in 2006 when I won, then I got to Golden State and we had a stand-up of current and past National and World Champions. There were about 10 of us, and I was the low man on the totem pole. Two months after my NATs win, I finished 4th in a local contest (behind Ted, David, and Howard) and didn't even get a trophy.

Yes, there is a bit of West Coast Conspiracy going on, given that it was originally conceived as the California North/South meet. They used to give out points for North and South. It was pretty even for a long time, until almost everyone from LA (wisely) moved to Tucson.    David and Ted's names appear MANY times on the perpetual trophy. I think I have won it 3 or 4 times, and I have finished 2nd a disgusting number of times including last year after getting the Score of Death - 596.5, which is ALWAYS a loser.

I always tell everyone how the supposed "conspiracy" works in exquisite detail, but no one ever listens or takes advantage of it.

I would be overjoyed with that score!

As would ALMOST anyone else!!!  y1 #^ <= <=

Not as disappointing as flying a 574 (best score of my life) and finishing 7th... and that's just here in Tucson.

Thought seriously about retiring from frustration after that one.

Seems that when you work very hard and improve a lot...so does everyone else!   LL~ LL~ LL~

Randy,.  Exactly the same frustration as yours.  Except I really did quit.

Having a great time flying just for the fun of it.  No more pressure.  It's nice.

I have lost 3 contests when I got that score, all three times to David, including last year at Golden State. Same at Ted Goyet 2014, and Meet n'Meat 2007, I think.

BRETT   All you need do, is just squeeze one manouver a little harder, add a point or two , grease the landing, or nail a perfect take-off, or you could just really drill a square 8  ..  pretty simple  ....  huh ?  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

So, Brett, if you don't want it, can I have it?

Can I also apply it retro-actively?  Hey Fitton!  Look what I got  - a 596.5!  Gimme that 1st place trophy!!

 ;D

Yes, all I have to do is try harder. Should be no problem. Thanks!

Nope, won't do you any good. I have the formula figured out and know exactly how to score you on each maneuver to arrive at precisely 596.5. I even have it figured out to modify the scoring if your AP goes up or down at each contest.
I use it at my discretion.

I had the exact same experience in 2012 after I won it all.  Thought I was big time and everything...hahaha..not so fast sonny boy.  Got the Charles Ash and RO decided he would have his way and walked off with the win....

596.5 wont get you a win around here either.  This past Charles Ask it took a 609.....   It only gets harder and harder...

If I could make the Golden State I would be there in a heartbeat!!!  I would love to come out there and do battle on the "home turf" of the "West Coast Conspiracy"  ;D ;D

One day maybe....

One thing I learned very well from flying for 30+years against Ted, David, and Paul, is humility. Ted is the worst, I have probably lost to him 50 times, and about 45 of them in a row.

As long as you are willing to overlook the evil, we are otherwise OK, mostly.

That may be true Brett, but you kick their *ss when it comes to the Fox 15 Hurl! That you can be proud of.

It's an event where my caveman-like, mindless, brute force approach to life really pays off.

I see Clint has it pretty much figured out.

That's what happens around here.

The Jive Combat Team will be there vying for the Junior Varsity title against increasingly formidable Canadians.

Howard,
The Canadian's have been practicing with increased effort to show the JCT how it's to be done.  Chris is all tuned up and is down in Vegas making some extra cash while taking in the Red bull races this weekend.  He and Joan will cruise into Madera in the RV-7 on Thursday.  I'm in charge of delivering the Crossfire and all his hardware.
After watching us fly some and getting disgusted, I'll give you a fishing pole so you can do some crappie angling.  I got a note from PTG the other day saying he was planning on making an appearance.
Should be fun.
