Golden State Contest Expense for 1989
« on: June 06, 2010, 11:42:57 AM »
Hi guys,

When I was looking thru some of my old papers I ran accross this item. We're lucky for the small amount we pay to play. I wonder how this compares to todays cost???? I don't believe the entrance fee is much more than in the latter years. Also does any of the clubs make any money from the contest they sponsor???? I guess what I'm trying to say, is thank you to all the club that go to all the work to have these contest. Do you think there would be more contest if the fees where increased. Don't most contest only charge $20.00 dollars per entry???? Would it be better if they charges $30.00???? At most RC events I believe they charge more!!!!! Don't mean to start a war but we do need CL to survive. Would this help??????? Just curious, cause I'm just FAT-DUMB AND HAPPY, Gary (Also, the last Golden State Contest, I don't remember if they sold shirts and hats, I do remember they didn't serve food. I believe all three of these items helped us make some money from the contest we had before???????)

NW contests are pretty much all $20 base entry fee (one event included). What changes is the extra $ for 2nd and 3rd events. Some are +$5 and some are +$10.  The change to $20 basic entry made it so our club could make a small profit, while at $10, we lost on every contest, sometimes bigtime.

As for food, at Stunt-a-Thon, we have a restaurant adjacent to the circle. At our new Dick Scobee Memorial (at Dick Scobee Municipal Airport), there are several restaurants within a block's walk. For the Fall contest, the RF Stevenson Memorial, it's a short drive to food, but we have had a sign-up for pizza, which is brought in by courier. We'd need volunteers to do food, and we just don't have them. I generally like to stop at a Safeway or Albertson's and buy ice, drinks, and a sandwich for lunch.

I can't read your receipt, but if you'd email me the original scan, I'd make it a more legible size and email it back... :! Ciao, Steve

Maybe Jim Lee will jump on this for the TOPCLASS meet.  He usually gives a report at club meetings and I think the raffle is the money maker.  Thanks to all the mfr's and suppliers.  Also individuals sponsoring trophies.  What hurts is the lack of entries in some events and then the club gets stuck with trophies.  In the days of the Sky Devils we started using blank certificates for second and third places.  First would get the little plastic trophy, this for the monthly meets.  The big contest is where all three places got trophies.  I too could not rea the little picture even when enlarged.  Guess I need new glasses.
