It was a little sketchy today at the city park. When I got to the park there was about 7 cars in the parking lot. By the time I got my stooge out and setup the parking lot was almost full, like there was a exit off the expressway to the park or something.
Baseball parents going to the ball fields. I packed up and went over to the city soccer park. The practice field open and not a lot of people around.
I was reading the current MA magazine and read the article about site assistance and nose. I was running in my newest OS engine on the test and after a run, I took the baffle out. It was noticeably louder.
I now belong to a model club, but I sometimes run to a local city park if I want to get in some quick flights.
I always take the baffles out of the mufflers to save .2 oz, but if I have to fly at a city park I think I will keep on in my flight box and pop them back in. They do help quite the engines down and I want to be a good neighbor so that I can keep flying at in the city. Only for a quick fix. <=

For that weight penalty, I would just keep the baffles in. I do what I can to keep down the noise and hope to avoid complaints. I never used to worry about it, but times have changed. So far I'm doing OK, but it only takes one complaint to start a flood and then you don't have a place to fly. If the park starts to fill with soccer players, I'm gone.

Motors usually run better with the baffles in anyway.

I believe that ALL mufflers could be a lot better. Sure, quiet mufflers mean back pressure and reduced power. The fix? A larger displacement engine will easily make up the difference.
I once built my own lawnmower muffler (B&S 2 1/2 HP)_You COULDN'T hear it at 15 ft away. Power was reduced, and it wouldn't cut tall grass, but the neighbors were happy!
