Godspeed Dr. John
« on: June 06, 2019, 07:51:32 PM »
It seems there are many here who, like me, love real music. Last week we lost Leon Redbone, and now we have lost Dr. John.

Dr. John has long been one of my favorite musicians. I saw him in concert just once, but it was amazing. It was a party!

I could list dozens of songs for which Dr. John is famous. I'm adding a link here to his performance of Iko Iko with the Sunday Night Band, with David Sanborn on sax and Jeff Healy (also now gone...) on guitar. It's just a sample of the music made by this fantastic musician. I often put this one on You Tube and play along with it. It just makes me happy.

I've been a fan since the late 1960s, and this is a most sad day for me indeed.

Godspeed Dr. John, and thanks for the party!

Enjoyed the link above to "Somewhere" which features his piano, voice and songwriting.

But, how can we forget his hit:

We here in New Orleans are truly heartbroken about this.  He was such an asset to our city and truly an ambassador of the Southern Louisiana and New Orleans culture and of course, music.   He was 77 and died of a heart attack.  His very close friend, Irma Thomas, said tonight on the local news he had been ill for about a year but that was not commonly known.

There will be many second line celebrations in his honor.  He will be sorely missed.

Right Place, Wrong Time was my introduction to his music, like a lot of us.
For a treat, find his recording of 'How come my dog don't bark when you come around?'

Yep, I was a fan. We are getting to that point where we are losing more that gaining. I was crushed when Glenn Frey died.

Dr. John had a very unique sound...loved his stuff...Watched Glenn and the Eagles on AXS the other night.
