Title: Goals for 2015
Post by: pipemakermike on January 10, 2015, 06:15:43 AM
In 2014 I posted:-
http://stunthanger.com/smf/index.php/topic,33824.msg342155.html#msg342155 (http://stunthanger.com/smf/index.php/topic,33824.msg342155.html#msg342155)
Then the year went sour :(
So, Goals for 2015:-
I have some other unfinished projects that might get moved on:-
So, that is just my CL projects.  All I need is a boost to my motivation and all will be well!

Maybe that is what I need to do. Both of my work areas are in a jumbled mess. The trouble is, if I clean it all up I won't be able to find anything, and if I don't clean it up I don't have anyplace to work. I do believe my motivation has gone south. I have so many planes that I just cannot decide on anything to do. Last year was kind of a disaster as everytime I went to fly the wind was blowing a gale by the time I got to the field, or else it was so hot and humid that a few flights and I was done. I use to have 2 fields close to my home that worked well for me, but I lost both of them. I don't mean for this to sound like such a downer, but sometimes we just get in a slump. At 74 years old maybe what I need is just a change in direction. Maybe finish up my scale plane that I have been working on for 30 years. Maybe when spring comes to Kansas I will get inspired to do something to restart myself. There is always hope. Right now though as I look out my picture window all I see is snow and wind. But, the sun is shining.

Jim you still need to get the Sunflower State Classic Stunt Champ trophy away from Andrew!

Last year I posted:
I intend to finally finish my Yak-9 and get a new Skyray built for the May contest. Meanwhile move up to Intermediate from Beginner, not likely in time for May, but necessary for October. Winning Beginner on my next(second) try is a goal I really want. Start building my first full fuse model, a kit Oriental. And finish a couple of fun 1/2A builds, including a speed plane and a Tee Dee .09 sized self design. And FLY... a lot... all while not making a hobby widow of my wife.
I did alright. I flew a lot, and I finished my Sterling Yak-9 and it flies better than I ever expected. I won Beginner in May with my old beater and flew Intermediate in October with my new Skyray disguised as a Flite Streak named Osprey, with mixed results. In Profile I came in behind Shug and ahead of some advanced guys... mostly their doing, but I'll take it. In PAMPA stunt I came in 3rd... out of three. I have only recently started on my Oriental and it's not a kit, but an ARF, my first. I'm still talking about replenishing my 1/2A fleet, but I did build a profile P-51 and won in our 1/2A Reed Speed postal contest. I have yet to start building my TD .09 self design, which is to be a profile knockoff of a Cox Hyper Viper. And my wife still loves me.
So I think I did better than average.

This year I'll get the fleet of little ones restocked with a couple of Stuntman23s, at least one Muciano model, and hopefully the Junior Hyper Viper. And I expect to make a decent run at Intermediate, since Shug will be flying advanced haha. My hope is that will be with the Oriental too.

As for what I'd like to do this year, is resurrect a dream from before I was ready for a complex build and make one of Jim Thomerson's Tee Dee .049 powered Cheap Thrills. He tried to get me started before I was equipped and ready, and I feel like he was mildly disappointed. His recent death has inspired me again, and it's within my wheelhouse now. And of course after all that, hopefully my arthritis will continue to give me a break now and then, I'll fly a lot more, and my wife will even still love me.

Goals....so many for control line.
Top goals:
*See the pattern more as a pattern and less of a "do or crash." Take all the advice I received like getting my bottoms on my outsides on the Horizontal 8 even. Like Gene
Martine told me the outside is usualy high so start the inside a bit higher to even them up. Thankee Gene. Great tidbit.
*Learn more about my IC engines.
*Make the Carolina Criterium Contest again in October. See all them there folks again))))
*Make it to Brodaks.
*Finish the plane I was gifted but have to paint and finish. Chief.
*Not be disappointed by the finish on the Chief. :-)
*Build the two electric kits in my shop. RSM Mustang and Tutor.
*Fly a lot.
*Help out our club and control line in general by making hopefully entertaing videos and making it look fun to new folk and old salts too.
*Fly better squares and smoother corners.
*Become a better builder/modler. Get into the zen of it like Sparky and Windy whose videos I study late at night.
*Learn to un-clench my arse.
*Get Minneapolis Piston Popper t-shirts done. Love the Philly Flyers and that red unified look. We will be blue more than likely.
*Get a large engine....60 or bigger and get a large plane. I want to feel what that feels like!
*Hang out with Dan Banjock again. 'nuff said.

Move up from 1/2a to bigger planes, get involved with my local CL club, learn the beginner pattern, maybe compete.

Jim
Well, I built a Fancherized Twister and a mongoose. I am now secretary of the Central Arizona Control Line Club. I played around with the beginner pattern but never competed.

 For 2015:
 1. Whip up some enthusiasm for club racing, get a series going between Phoenix and Tucson.

 2. Build a Supermarine Seafang for Navy Carrier.

3. Build something 1/2a multi engine scale in Tucson this year.

4. Build a F2G Super Corsair to compete in 80/100mph bracket race in October.

5. Get more participants for Cox Engine Forum Profile Scale Speed in 2015.

Those planes look amazing for sure. Something about seeing these planes formed up and still in the wood look. Bet you will be back in no time.
Funny...I too have a goal to get with my picking friends and tear up some more bluegrass this year. Just some good hard core jamming....https://soundcloud.com/seanemery2/sets/turkey-mountain-jammin (https://soundcloud.com/seanemery2/sets/turkey-mountain-jammin)

Mike - I just wish my workshop (=shed) was as tidy as your "before" picture.

Well I quit making goals after I started to clean up the shop and try to organize things.  It's worse now than before.   But, the main thing is to get out an fly no matter what.   The grand kids may have to learn to walk home from school.    Unless they want to do some flying.   Also hope we can get the new circle in good shape.
